“I’m going,” Daddy declares. “Arathia can pass your message along. She is hovering in the hallway.”
I roll my eyes but head out to see her. “You can’t change my mind,” I tell her.
“I know,” she replies. “But Theo…he really likes you…”
“I know. He’s sweet and I like him. I’ll see him when I come back.”
“You have no intention of seeing him again,” she blurts out. “You’re dismissing him because he’s a Vampire, aren’t you?”
“No,” I say patiently. “You know I don’t like Vamps, but it has nothing to do with Theo, per se.”
“Humph,” Arathia mutters, sounding just like our mother.
“Look, I need to get going. Will you pass my thanks on to your father for his hospitality, please?”
She gives me a glare, but then rushes me, throwing her arms around me. “We just got you back. Don’t go again.”
“I’ll be back as soon as Mother returns,” I promise her.
She nods and lets me go.
I squeeze her hands and then turn to my father, who is hovering in the doorway of my bedroom. He is eager to get going, that much is clear. He hands me my bag and then holds his hand out. I will have to transport us to the Fae Kingdoms. Daddy can move himself via Puffport, but not through the Realms. He isn’t powerful enough, having been just a regular Dark Fae before he was turned into a Vampire. He has to use the Faerie rings to get to and from the Fae Kingdoms.
I grip his hand tightly and soon we are standing in the familiar Entrance Hall to my grandfather’s immense palace in the D. F. K.
Daddy disappears almost instantly, leaving me to make my way to my room by myself. I get to the bottom of the stairs when a voice booms at me, “Savvie! You’re back!”
I turn with a big grin to my grandfather. “Gramps!” I call out as he is still a way down the hall.
He reaches me in several giant strides, being an enormous man, and scoops me up into a crushing hug. “Is your mother here?” he asks hopefully, putting me back down and looking around.
I shake my head. “Sorry, she is in the Dragon Realms with Delinda. She had a baby! I’m an Auntie!”
His face goes even paler than usual. I bite the inside of my lip. He always gets a sketchy look on his face when I mention Delinda. I know that she lived here previously with Mother, but I don’t know the ins and outs of her time here. Something went down and it wasn’t good.
“I see,” he mutters, suddenly going a bit cold. “Well, go and get settled, and then come back down later. Ambrosia has a feast planned for tonight.”
I resist the urge to roll my eyes. My diva of an Aunt always has a feast, or party, or some social occasion planned. She is a social butterfly, whereas I prefer to keep to myself. Personally, I think it’s all political. She is trying to gain popularity so that grandfather will give her the throne.
Over my dead body will I allow that to happen.
Mother may not know this, even Daddy doesn’t know, but I intend for that throne to be mine. I know that Gramps sees me as someone who could rule. He has made mention several times that I would make a great ruler, but Ambrosia thinks because Drake is her father, he will pick her. Mother, being the only other Dark Fae Princess, is out of the running. She wouldn’t accept it if you paid her. As for my Uncles…well, everyoneknows that a Princess will take the throne.
I nod and duck up the stairs as he stomps off in a temper now after what I said about Delinda. I seriously need to find out what that is all about.
I make it halfway when I’m stopped again. This time with a soft, “Savannah.”
I turn with a smile and see my friend, Jerrick, heading towards me up the stairs. He is the Head of the Dark Fae Guard. A ferocious warrior but very sweet to me. He is like a big cuddly bear. He towers over me, as do all of the Dark Fae men, as he steps up to meet me on the same level.
He grins down at me. “Back so soon?”
“Long story,” I say, deciding to leave Delinda out of the conversation this time.
He looks down the stairs, almost as if he is afraid someone will come up and see us talking. He is very wary about our interactions.
“I have the night off tonight,” he mutters. “I’ll be at the feast. Can you spare some time to see some of the paintings I’ve been working on?”
I give him a bright smile. “Of course! I can’t wait.”
