“Aeval,” he says softly. “Please…”
“I’ll be in my room…” she interrupts him. “I’ll find you when I’m ready to talk.” She stalks off and then stops and looks back over her shoulder at Theo. “Come!” she barks at him.
He gives me a stricken look, which I try not to laugh at. But as soon as the thought that my mother might actually use him as food hits me, I growl softly in warning to him.
His wide eyes at my apparently territorial action, soon turn heated and he reluctantly trails after my mother when she impatiently snaps her fingers at him.
I avoid Jerrick’s eyes when I turn back to Gramps. “She’s here. I couldn’t do better than that in the short space of time I was given.”
“It’s more than I could have hoped for,” he murmurs to me.
The realization that he used me and this situation to get her here makes me feel a bit queasy. Am I just a pawn in everyone’s games?
Then, he takes me in his arms and gives me a squeeze. “You’ll convince her, my girl. I know you will.”
I forgive him because he is on my side. He just saw an opportunity and took it regardless. That’s what I need to start doing. Being a bit more ruthless in getting what I want.
My jaw is tight as I excuse myself. “I’m going to see the ravens. I’ll see you later.”
I don’t give any of them a chance to protest as I leave. I need the calm the birds give me.
And if I’m being honest with myself, and only myself, I hope that I see Raize as well.

Jerrick
Iwatch her go with a growing trepidation. I should have known that it was too good to be true. She used me to take her virginity and the very next day invited her Vampire boyfriend along to the one place where Vampires are detested. She’s fucking bold, I’ll give her that.
“Go!” Vito roars at me as I just stand there and stare after her. “She is not to be alone.”
I blink. Of course. I’d completely forgotten that I’m letting her wander off on her own when she needs my protection now more than ever. It seems that I’m not the only one who thinks Ambrosia will try something to get Savvie out of the way now that she has been named as Drake’s heir.
It gets me into motion. My own feelings over her will have to wait.
I stride to catch up to her, falling into step just behind her. She stops and gives me a glare.
“What are you doing?” she snaps.
“I’m your Guard, Princess,” I start, but pause when she rolls those pretty eyes at me.
“Back to Princess?” she asks cockily.
“It’s fitting,” I retort, trying to push down my anger, but it bubbles up anyway. “Seeing as I am nothing more than your guard, you are my Princess.”
Her shocked look does nothing to heal my broken heart.
“What?” she hisses. “Just my guard?”
“Oh, sorry, also your stud,” I hiss back. “I almost forgot that you used me for that.”
Her look of horror turns to outrage.
“How dare you!” she roars in my face. “You utter bastard.”
She spins on her heel and storms off, but I’m not finished with this yet and catch up with her in three giant strides. I grab her elbow, bringing her to a halt and spinning her to face me.
Her eyes are flashing with danger, little silversparks amidst the swirl of vibrant purple. She is mad, and so beautiful with it.
