I narrow my eyes at him, and then the Guard and the other guy.

And then I shake my head.

“Like mother like daughters,” I drawl with an eye roll. “I didn’t figure you’d be the type given what Blayne told me.”

“What did he say?” she asks indignantly.

I shrug. I’m not interested in recounting my brother’s tales. “Not important. What is important, is that whatever happened here earlier, has sent Anders into a rage. He is assembling his army to march on the Dark Fae lands at the earliest opportunity.”

“Why are you telling us this?” the Guard asks. “You are committing treason against your King.”

“Pah,” I spit out. “He isnotmy King. He is a fucking asshole that, from what I hear, is only in rule because his father and brothers were killed. No one wants him as King, they just have no choice. He is weak and pathetic and too interested in getting to Aefre to make her his Queen to be bothered about much else. Until today.”

I pause for dramatic effect.

Eh, what can I say, living here is starting to affect me.

“He wants Savvie,” the Guard says in a low tone.

“Bingo. Now, I only came to these Kingdoms to find my mother and figure out what being a half Fae meant, Idid notsign up for a war for a King I loathe, against the woman I…” I narrow my eyes at her.

Her wide purple eyes are completely guileless and if I didn’t already know I’d fallen for her in the worst way, then I do now.

“You what?” the Guard growls at me.

“That’s between me and the Princess,” I state, folding my arms across my chest.

“Not anymore,” the Vampire says.

“And who are you?” I spit out.

He holds his hand out to me with impeccable manners. “Theodore Walcott.”

I stare at his hand. If I refuse to shake it, I’ll look like a dick. I’ve spent too much of my time looking and acting like a dick and it’s not how I want Savannah to see me.

“Trey’Za,” I reply, and then while I’m at it, turn to the other guy, who hasn’t said a word yet. He’s just been standing there, taking this all in with hawk-like eyes that kind of unnerve me when they bore into mine.

Notthat I’d ever admit that.

“Raize, but they call me Rook,” he says as a large black bird lands on his shoulder. I’m guessing it’s a rook.

“And you?” I ask the Guard who looks like he wants my head on a pike.

“Jerrick,” he growls at me.

I turn my eyes back to Savannah. “You have a little harem going on here?”

She shrugs. “I’m not sure what’s going on,” she says.

“Not helpful, Little Faerie. Before I dive in headfirst, why don’t you tell me what youdoknow for sure."

“Why don’t you tell us what else you know about this war,” Jerrick says.

“Nope,” I say, eyes on Savannah. “You first.”

Her cheeks flame with embarrassment. It endears me to her even more. She is the sweetest little thing. So innocent. Even if I didn’t have these feelings for her, I couldn’t let her be taken by that raging rapist who calls himself a King.

“Uhm,” she says, looking down.
