Trey gives me a cautious look. “I can’t go back there,” he says stiffly. “Not now.”

“Come with me,” I volunteer, throwing my own clothes back on. “I’ll take you in until we can sort something else out.”

He nods and Savvie rises up on her tiptoes to kiss me. “Thank you,” she says and then she Puffports out, leaving us four men to stare at each other.

“Well, that was fun,” Trey says, probably just to break the silence. “What now?”

“Now we prepare to train the Princess to defend herself should Anders get within a three-mile radius of her,” I reply gruffly and then grab Trey and Puffport out, back to my room. The other two can sort themselves out. This is weird enough without me needing to be around all of them all of the time.

I gesture to the bathroom silently and just as wordlessly, Trey disappears into it.

I sit heavily on my bed and contemplate what just happened. Savannah was completely into being with the four of us. She didn’t once look like she’d made a mistake or regretted her decision.

I sigh. I can’t let it weigh on me. I love her and I’m willing to do whatever she wants me to do. The simple fact that she loves me back, and currentlyonlyme, and has allowed me into her bed is enough.

That won’t last though. She has three other men claiming their love for her and she will fall in love with them one by one, say the words and mean them.

I need to prepare myself for that eventuality as it will be sooner rather than later.

The other thing that is weighing on me, is something that I’m sure she has concluded herself. Trey is going to be her Light Fae mate. She will fight tooth and nail to have her family accept him as such and they will get married and have a child together.

I hope once that has been accomplished, she will consider creating a child with me. I have never wanted children, nor has it ever been inthe cards for me. But now with her, it's something that I very much desire and I hope that she will also.

I look up as Trey exits the bathroom and props himself up against the doorway, his arms folded across his chest as he gives me a searching look.

“Problem?” he asks.

“I need to keep Savvie safe from Anders. He cannot, under any circumstances, complete that blood oath with her. Are you fully committed to keeping her safe?” I ask, needing him to say it, so that I know if I can trust her life with him.

He straightens up, knowing the seriousness of this conversation. “I would die for her,” he says with no dramatics, no expectation of a congratulations for being a hero, just a plain statement.

“Good,” I say, with a brisk nod. “You will help me train her. So will the other men. She needs to have a different set of species attack her with their skill set so she knows her own flaws and also her own strengths.”

He nods back. “I’m in. How adept at magick is she?”

“Talented, a natural, but young and inexperienced in so far as beinghere. She didn’t grow up here, so her training was limited. Stunted even. She has a long way to go in a very short time. We cannot go easy on her. Are you prepared for that? Are you prepared to push her even when she cries for mercy?”

He gives me a grim look. “Anders won’t give her mercy,” he states, telling me all I need to know, but he adds anyway, “Neither shall I. But as soon as training is over, I will love her and reassure her and make damn sure that her confidence doesn’t waiver for even a second. I will be everything that she needs me to be,whenshe needs me to be it. Whatever form that takes.”

I take in his words, wondering if he has somehow read my mind as I feel the exact same way.

“Something I need to know before we dive into this even further…”

“What?” he asks, going on the offensive.

“Can you compel her?”

Trey’s eyebrows shoot up, but his surprise quickly gets replaced with that arrogant smirk. “Can you manipulate her feelings?”

“Answer me!” I demand, standing up and approaching him in as threatening manner as I can.

“No,” he replies. “I have no idea how that works. Yet.”

His last word chills me. “You plan to find out?”

“Not on Savannah,” he says. “But that is one trick this pony needs to learn. Now answer me.”

“Yes, I can. But before you ask or accuse, no, I never have. I never would. If she told me today that she didn’t want to be with me, I would accept that and only try to convince her the natural way that she is wrong to dismiss me. Are we clear?”
