Stumbling as I land near her bed, and it’s not just from the power drain that makes me feel like vomiting as I steady myself.

Her grandfather is in the middle of a tirade, shouting at them, and when he sees me arrive, he turns full force andbellows in my face, “AND YOU! I should skin you where you stand. Who do you think you are latching onto my granddaughter? You are delusional if you think I’m going to let this happen.” He sweeps his arm out, nearly knocking me off my feet. “Any of this! Do your parents know?” He pauses and then mutters to himself, “Of course your mother knows. She probably encouraged this nonsense. What about your father? He will have something to say about you shacking up with all of these men!”

“Gramps, please,” Savvie begs. “Not now.”

She looks terrible. Her nose is gushing blood, her eyes are bloodshot, and the grimace of pain on her face makes my heart ache for her. The blood oath is destroying her.

Drake’s face softens slightly, but he shakes his head. “I will not condone this behavior, Savannah. You have to make a choice. One of them, none of them, I don’t care, but you will not take control of my throne while being at the center of…this.”

“No! I amnotchoosing!”

“And nor should she have to,” Aefre says as she Puffports in next to me, giving me a pitying look before she takes my elbow and leads me over to the bed to sit.

I give her a grateful smile.

“Oh, this has you written all over it. I knew it!” Drake hisses at his daughter.

“Oh, I had nothing to do with this. It was all Savvie,” Aefre says, which I’m not sure helps her any. “She is a strong woman, a Queen-to-be. She can do whatever the fuck she likes, with whoever the fuck she likes and there is fuck allyoucan do about it!”

Drake’s face goes puce with all the cussing aimed his way. I try to hide my smile because I’m pretty sure she did it on purpose to piss himoff.

I glance at Savvie and tune out their argument. “Hey,” I say, crawling over to her.

She rises up to her knees and takes me in her arms. “I’m so glad to see you. I thought…”

“I’m okay,” I hastily reassure her. “I love you.” I kiss her, and the room goes silent.

Embarrassed that all eyes have gone to us, I pull back.

Savvie smiles behind the tissue that Jerrick hands to her.

“This is not happening, Savannah!” Drake thunders.

“Yes, it is!” she states. “I love them all, and I’m not choosing.”

Aefre steps forward, and before Drake can say anything else, she says, “We have more pressing issues to deal with. The blood oath. We need to break it.”

“There is only one way,” Drake says, accepting the change in topic. For now.

“We need to kill Anders,” I say, stating what, to me, is the obvious.

Trey, on the other hand, looks surprised, but not against it. “The only way?”

“Yes,” Drake says.

“Fine,” he says and bends to kiss Savvie. “I’ll see you when I get back.”

He stalks past Drake as we all gape after him.

“Wait!” Savvie cries. “You can’t…”

He spins to her. “What? Go into the palace and throttle the life out of him before I stab him in the heart, and cut it out so that I can burn it on his lifeless body?”

“Uhm,” Savvie murmurs, biting her lip.

“You are thinking like a Dragon,” Aefre clips out. “Hot-headed and arrogant.”

“Pah!” Drake snorts. “You can talk.”
