She gives him an icy stare.
“But you’re right,” he concedes. “We need a plan. A real plan.”
“Be quick about it,” Theo speaks for the first time. “Savvie needs this over with.”
Drake's eyes land on him with only a smidgen of disgust before he narrows them. “You might be of use. Come with us,” he says and points at Aefre and Trey to also follow him. Then he goes up to Jerrick and grabs him by his shirt front. “If anything else happens to her onyourwatch, you are done. Are we clear?”
“If anything else happens to her while I’m supposed to be protecting her, I will take my own life. Have no fear, Your Majesty,” Jerrick grits out.
“Humph,” Drake mutters and lets him go.
His eyes pin mine, and I brace myself for whatever is headed my way. “Rook,” he clips out as derisively as he can. “As much as it repulses me, you do seem to have a magickal connection with her. Help her now or die trying. If I come back up here and she is still bleeding, I will make you bleed from every orifice that you have and then make some more. Areweclear?”
“Yes, sir,” I murmur, eyes lowered. Although, how I’m supposed to help her is something that eludes me. If I knew of a way, I would have done it by now. But maybe the answer is in Drake’s words. I watch him go and then turn to her with a grim look.
Knowing what I have to do, I take her hands and say, “You are going to have to kill me. Again.”
Chapter 9
Theo
Drake leads us into a huge hall and turns to face us with his arms crossed. “I have let this go on for long enough,” he says with a heavy sigh. “I should have killed that little prick years ago, after…” He gives Aefre a long look.
She gives him a grimace in return but doesn’t say anything.
“If you kill him, who will take over?” I ask. “Will Savannah be in just as much danger?”
“Not if. When,” Drake spits out.
“Ambrosia,” Aefre snorts. “It’s why she did this to begin with. She knew exactly what would happen and inserted herself into a position to be Queen, albeit of theLightFae instead.”
“You think?” I ask, scrunching up my nose and giving her an interested stare. “They won’t want her. She isn’t Light Fae.”
“No, but she is a Dark Fae Princess, and if she has a child with a Light Fae…” She trails off as we take in the implications of that.
She’s right, though. The Light Fae will keep her around in whatever way makes her happy so that they can use her for their own ends.
“Ambrosia will be coming home,” Drake says stiffly. “Where she will stand trial for her treason.”
“What?” I ask, a bit stunned. Man, these creatures do not mess about.
“No, wait,” Aefre says, which surprises me. I thought she’d be on board with that plan. “This might work to our advantage.”
Drake glares at her while Trey starts to pace impatiently.
“What about killing Anders first?” he growls. “We can deal with the fallout later.”
“Typical Dragon,” Drake sneers. “Never thinking about the bigger picture.”
“He’s right,” Aefre says with a sigh. “We have to be clever about this. The Fae are devious and will see us coming a mile away if we do this as Dragons now.”
“How can I help?” I ask because I’m still unsure how my Vampire-ness is supposed to be of use. I’d rather be with Savvie, making sure she doesn’t die before I can hold her again. I gulp as that thought brings forth what I’d been trying to avoid thinking about. “Will this blood oath kill her if she doesn’t go to him?”
Drake blinks. “Yes, unless that fool raven can come up with a way to take the burden off her.”
“What?” Trey snaps. “You expect Rook to take it on?”
“I expect him to do what he was apparently born to do and help her strengthen her magick so that she can fight it. If that means he dies, well…” He shrugs.
