“Oh, that,” I scoff, wondering why he’s so concerned. “I’m fine. Honestly. Least of my problems.”

“For now, because you have other things going on. Once the Anders thing is sorted and you are settled again in your life, it will creep up on you and you will have to deal with it. The better prepared you are for when it hits you, the easier it will be to work through it. We will help you.”

Grimacing at him, I deftly put my panties on. “I told you, I’m fine about that.”

“Okay,” he says, but I think he just said it to shut me up.

I’m right.

“But if you ever feel you need to talk about it, I will listen and comfort you.”

Turning my back to him, I roll my eyes, but then I stop being a brat and say, “Thank you. I appreciate that.”

He sighs, because he knows I’m blowing him off, but what can I say? I really don’t care that I slaughtered loads of Light Fae. They would’ve done the same to me if I hadn’tbeen the spoils, not to mention how many Dark Fae,mypeople, did they kill? So, maybe one day it will come back to bite me on the ass… that day isn’t today.

I pull my dress on and slip my shoes onto my feet and then turn back to him with a smile. “Stay with Rook, please, while I find out what’s going on?”

“I will come with you. Rook is fine. He doesn’t need someone to watch over him.” He has that tone, and face, that brooks no argument. He has gone into Protector mode so I’m better off leaving him to it.

I go over to Rook and kiss his forehead, stroking his face lightly. “Thank you,” I murmur and kiss his lips, then we leave the room and head down to the Great Hall, where we can hear the arguing coming from all the way over by the stairs.

We exchange a look and push open the double doors. The room falls silent and they glare at us for interrupting them. Trey is the first to move and Theo quickly after him, coming over to me.

“You should be resting,” Trey murmurs as he takes me in his arms.

“I’m okay. Rook gave me his strength. He is unconscious upstairs, but alive.”

“Oh,” Trey says grimly, allowing Theo to slip in to also give me a cuddle.

“So, what’s the plan?” I ask, looking at my mother as she is the only one who will give it to me straight.

“Theo is going to kill Anders. We are trying to sort out the rest,” she says shortly.

I blink at my Vampire and lick my lips. “What?” I bark after a long pause. “You cannot go into that palace alone!”

He gives me a hurt look, but I’m not backing down. He will be killed if he attempts this.

“No,Iam the best shot for this to work. I can go to the palace, pretend that I’m there to be with him, that the blood oath is just too strong to deny. He will buy it because he wants to. Then I will be the one to kill him,” I declare.

The roar of protest from everyone else in the room deafens me, and I put my hands up to stop them from shouting at me.

“The girl must do this,” a voice says from the doorway and everyone shuts it long enough to turn to see who it was that spoke. “She can get to him and she has the balls to see it through.” Rath’Na gives me a smirk that I want to giggle at, but daren’t under the circumstances.

“No fucking way!” Trey roars at him. “You can shut the fuck up, old man. You don’t get a say in this.”

“It is the best option,” Rath’Na says.

“I’m not sending my daughter into the lion’s den!” Mother shouts. “You have got to have a screw loose if you thinkanyof us are going to allow that to happen.”

“Perhaps I do,” he says, a faraway look in his eye. “But the girl can do this.Ibelieve in her.”

I bite my lip to stop the snort that was about to come out. He has stopped everyone dead in their tracks with just four simple words.

Oh, he has to stick around if he has this effect on everyone. I’m absolutely sure of that. I even know in that moment, just how he will fit into my life. But for now, I’ve got to get rid of Anders and I’m completely okay with however I have to do it.
