“So am I,” she says. “You can’t change my mind, and you all know that I will have the best chance to get to him.”
“Absolutely not,” a voice booms at us from the doorway.
Vito strides in with a face of thunder. “You aren’t going anywhere,” he says emphatically, pointing his finger to the floor.
“Dad!” she says and goes to him, flinging her arms around him.
“Hey,” he says, softening as he holds her gently. “I was so worried.”
“I’m okay,” she tells him and then pulls away. “Trey hassomething he wants to ask you.” She gives me a wicked smirk as she throws me to the pissed-off Dark Fae, but I take the challenge with gusto. She is excited about my proposal, and I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Aefre sidles over to Vito and slips her hand into his. I watch this with interest. I wasn’t aware that her parents were together. No wonder she is beaming at them like her dreams have come true.
“What is it?” Vito barks.
“He’s marrying your daughter,” Drake chimes in before I can say anything. “He’s under the assumption that your opinion matters when it’s onlyminethat does. You have no say. It is happening.”
Vito blinks at Drake, his face blank. Those swirly purple eyes shift to me, and my palms go damp. “I see,” he clips out. “You feel that you can be the man she needs?”
“I know it,” I say, clenching my fists and feeling ridiculous for being nervous.
“But there’s more,” Savvie says, biting her lip. “I intend to marry three more times, and there isn’t a damn thing that any one of you can do about it.”
“Hm,” Rath’Na mutters into the ensuing silence.
“Hm?” I ask him when he doesn’t say anything more.
“Oh, nothing,” he says glibly, but I can see the wicked smirk that he is trying to hide. “I wasn’t sure, but I see now.”
“What’s it to you?” I snap. “You’d better not be getting any ideas!”
Jerrick and Theo start growling.
Rath’Na laughs and shakes his head, sweeping his hand down his body. “Oh, please. She couldn’t handle this.”
I glare at him and then at Savvie as she giggles, that sweet fucking sexy giggle that makes my dick go hard. What is this?
What the fuck is this?
I’m about to throw a punch at my not-grandfather’s face, when the ground rumbles under our feet.
Drake huffs out a breath.
“He’s here,” Savvie says.
“What?” I ask incredulously. “Is he seriously dumb enough to come here and try to get her back?”
“Yes,” Drake says, shaking his head. “He won’t get past the mages.”
Savannah takes my hand and, with her other, grabs both Theo and Jerrick. “You have to let me go to him. It is the only way. I will pretend that the blood oath can’t keep us apart. He won’t lock me up again if he thinks I’m accepting.”
“He will punish you for escaping him,” Jerrick spits out.
“He won’t. I will kill him before he can lay a hand on me, I promise you.”
“You aren’t ready for this,” Theo says. “I love you, Savvie, you are strong and fierce, but you cannot murder someone in cold blood.”
“I did on the battlefield,” she argues. “What’s the difference?”
