It’s now or never, Savvie.

Gripping the wand tighter in my left hand, I pull back from the kiss, sitting upright and then gripping it with both hands.

His eyes go wide and then flash with sheer rage as he struggles against my magick.

“You bitch!” he roars.

I have to do it now.

Looking him dead in the eyes as I plunge the sharp tip of the wand down into his chest, piercing his heart.

I keep my grip on it as he bucks underneath me, but it is useless. The magick is working its way through him. The lightning is sparking off the wand and going directly into his heart, where it is embedded so deep, I can’t move it.

He screams in agony as the power of the wand tears through him.

I had no idea if this would work. I still don’t know if it is enough to kill him. I am prepared to do more to end this. I let go of the wand and wrap my hands around his throat, squeezing as hard as I can, as I draw on the lightning thatis flashing up above me now in response to my killer mood.

He gags as he can’t breathe, but he isn’t immortal. It’s going to take more, but hewilldie. It’s going to take everything that I’ve got to sever his head from his body with the bolts of lightning now running through my hands as I choke him.

He thrashes about underneath me and manages to shake me loose enough to grab my hand and crush it in his, breaking it, making me scream. The rain starts to lash down, soaking my hair and making my hands slippery as I reach out for him again.

He is yelling curses at me, but he is weakening. The wand is doing its job. I focus on the magick, on the lightning, as I clamp my left hand around the wand and hold my other one up to the sky. I use myself as a conductor from bolt to wand, shrieking with the agony of the pure electricity coursing through me, making my hair stand on end and my blood boil in my veins.

“AAAAH!” I scream as I shake uncontrollably, fighting against the blood oath as it tries desperately to stop me from doing this. I pour everything that I have into the wand, and then it’s over.

Anders goes still. His eyes open and glazed over.

The only sound I can hear through the rain and thunder is my ragged breathing, but I have to get it together. The guards must’ve been alerted by now. I have to get out of here. I have to get back home. I stand up on shaky legs, shoving my soaking hair out of my face, my hands trembling fiercely. I choke back a sob, and then I hear my name being called.

“Savvie!” I look up, and through the rain, I can see mymen coming towards me, swords drawn, and the blood being washed away by the rain.

Jerrick throws his coat around me and takes me in his arms as I let the tears fall down my face. That was so much more difficult than I thought it would be. Emotionally and physically.

“My wand,” I stammer as he sweeps me up in his arms.

Reaching out my mended hand, to my surprise, it whooshes up and slaps against my palm. “Is he gone?” I have to ask. I have to know that I did it.

“Yes,” Trey confirms, straightening up from examining the body. “We need to move.Now.”

“Thank you for coming for me,” I sob.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Theo says, brushing my hair out of my face. “We never left you.”

“Good thinking to bring him here, Princess,” Rook says, looking alive and well to my relief. “You knew we could track you here.”

I nod, wishing that had been part of my plan, but all I was focusing on was being able to escape once the deed was done.

Looking up into Jerrick’s face, he avoids my gaze, and I gulp. If they were here, killing the guards while I was killing Anders, they saw me kissing him, and obviously, I’m naked under this coat.

“I’m sorry—I…”

“You did what you had to,” he says gruffly. “We all get that. Don’t fret, Princess.”

I sink further into his arms as he Puffports us back to the Dark Fae Palace.

Princess.

He called me Princess.
