She hisses and takes a step closer, but as Rath’Na does the same, she halts with a wary look.
“I was married to their King, and I’m carrying his heir. They want me as their Queen until this child is old enough to rule and unite the Kingdoms. I beat you, you little slut.” Her triumph is sickening. Made worse by the fact that she’s right.
“How do you even know you’re pregnant?” I ask, trying to bring her down a peg or two. “It’s only been a couple of weeks since you spread your legs for him.” I let her see the shudder that goes over me.
“Oh, please,” she sneers. “I have been planning this for years. Ever since you showed up here, IknewI needed to watch my back. My father is so wrapped around your mother’s finger, I knew that he would choose you. I had to protect myself. I’ve had the strongest mages perform fertility spells on me every month for the last year. All it took was once with Anders for me to get pregnant, and I did.”
She is so smug; I want to slap her face hard. Several times. But all I do is clench my fists. I should’ve known she would be so conniving as to have a back-up plan in case Gramps chose me.
“Well, bravo,” Rath’Na drawls and gives her a condescending as fuck slow clap. “What a clever little peacock. Didn’t count on Savannah being stronger than you, though, did you? Manipulating you into letting her go.” He shakes his head, his face full of such pity I want to burst out laughing.
She grits her teeth and focuses on me. “You killed the Light Fae King, you little whore. You will stand trial and be executed for your actions.”
“No, she won’t,” Jerrick says, edging closer to me. “She did no such thing. I killed him.”
I hiss. Why did he just admit to doing that in front of a dozen Light Fae witnesses. Hewillget himself killed.
He ignores me, ensuring to stand just a little bit in front of me. To protect me.
Damn him.
He’s protecting me frommyactions.
“I don’t believe you,” Ambrosia says. “I will have Savannah.”
“Come and get me then, bitch,” I snarl, pushing my way around Jerrick’s massive bulk.
I’m surprised by her next actions. She gives Rath’Na a fearful look again for just a second, before she smirks at me. “You won’t havehimby your side every second, little girl. I will get to you.”
“Who cares about him,” I retort. “Come and get me now, cunt-face.”
I can’t help the name-calling. I see her face, and I have to do it. It’s childish, but oh, so satisfying.
Ambrosia looks stunned, but then she laughs. She looks back at Rath’Na. “Oh, you haven’t told her, have you? I know all aboutyou. Anders told me everything. A bit of manipulation of my own,” she brags.
Rath’Na raises his eyebrow, pursing his lips. He reaches out and snatches something out of the air. I frown as I wonder what it is.
Ambrosia stumbles, putting her hand to her head, but then she rights herself again. “Mark my words, I’ll be back for you with the whole Light Fae army.”
Then she Puffports out, taking her dozen mages with her in a display that actually impresses me. She is stronger than I gave her credit for. Being able to carry that many is not something I could hope to do.
I look back at Rath’Na with a frown. What isn’t he telling me?
“What did you do to her?” I bark.
He shrugs and comes a bit closer. He wiggles his fingers slightly, and I look over to my men. They have been frozen in time. Only Rath’Na and I are still moving.
“I plucked a small bit of information out of her head,” he says.
“Come again?” I ask, confused. “How? How can you do that?” I storm up to him and glare up into his handsome, guileless face. “Whoareyou?”
He sighs. “I’m not ready to tell you that yet, girl.Youare not ready to hear it.”
“Tell me now, or you can fuck off out of my Kingdom. I don’t appreciate liars.”
“Not. A. Liar,” he grits out. “At least not entirely. I was planning on telling you, when you were ready.”
“I’m ready now.”
