I delight in her reaction to that news. “What?” she gasps. “You’re saying my direct ancestor was a goddess?”

“I am. But there’s so much more. When you had that vision of me in the prison,Ialso had one ofyou.”

“You did?” Her brow wrinkles up.

“I did. Color me surprised, as that has never happened to me before. Visions, not my thing. However, there you were in my head. I thought at first I was hallucinating, but when I saw you in the light of your swords in that tunnel, I knew what I saw was accurate. I knew your face before I saw it. I knew your features like I knew my own because I had gazed upon her face for so many years when it was just the two of us. Just Savenir and I.” I give her a penetrating stare that she can’t shy away from.

She steps closer to me and licks her lips. “What are you saying?”

“That her blood courses through you, Savannah. Your great-great grandmother was the Fae goddess and you, you Savannah, have the light of her burning inside you. Your grandfather doesn’t have it, neither does your mother or the peacock. But you, ah, I see it shining under your skin. A beautiful silver ribbon of power.” I can’t resist trailing my finger up her arm. She watches as I do it and then blinks.

“What does that mean?” she croaks, her eyes transfixed on my fingers.

“I don’t know, Savannah. That destiny isyours and yours alone. Whatever you choose to do with the information I have given you is your decision. I will be here to watch over you as you embrace your future as the Queen of the Dark Fae. But consider this… the Light and Dark were never meant to live apart. Savenir was both Dark and Light, and the child you will bear will unite them again. Ambrosia may think she has the upper hand, but she does not. It isyourchild that will accomplish this, Savannah.”

“Why did they split apart in the first place?”

I smirk. “You may think that you follow in your mother’s footsteps, but really you follow in your great-great grandmother’s. Not content with just one male, she created two to breed with and to live with together. One came out light-haired, and the other one had dark hair. The powers she passed on determined how the Light and Dark Fae came to be.”

“Oh,” she says faintly, then her eyes roll back in her head, and she passes out at my feet.

Chapter 25

Savannah

Opening my eyes, I blink a few times against the light. All of my men are staring at me, Theo is fanning my face.

I sit up and they all fall back when I look over to see Rath’Na staring at me with a questioning gaze.

I shake my head slightly, letting him know his secret is safe with me. Not because of him, but because ofme. I mean…What. The. Actual. Fuck?

A goddess?

A fucking goddess?

A fucking goddess has her silver ribbon of power floating in my veins?

Nah, sorry, but this Fae-bitch isn’t buying it. Him, I get. Yeah, I can see that he is beyond just a regular old Dragon. He is special. A god, sure. I totally believe that he is telling the truth, and yeah, about this Savenir character, I believe him about her too.

But that I’m some sort of reincarnated goddess. He has got to have a fucking screw loose. I’m no one special. Yes, a Dark Fae Princess – only one of three. Yes, I will be Queenof the Dark Fae one day soon, and that destiny is supposed to hold the answer to the Fae uniting, but the way Rath’Na spins it, is a bit far-fetched.

“Savvie?” Trey says urgently, giving me a little shake.

“Hmm?” I look up at him blankly.

“Are you okay?” he asks impatiently.

“Uhm, sorry, yeah. I think the last few days has taken its toll on me. Being imprisoned, escaping, killing Anders, finding out about Ambrosia…” I don’t need to go on as they all give me sympathetic looks.

Jerrick scoops me up, standing up easily with me in his arms. “Yes, it has been a traumatic time. We have to take Ambrosia’s threat against you seriously. You will not be allowed outside the Palace until further notice.”

“Lockdown?” I shriek. “No way! Rook and I had plans in a few days by the waterfall.”

“You will have to change those plans,” Jerrick says, going all Head of the Dark Fae Guard on me, with such a fierce glare, I find myself shrinking back from it. “You can spend your time alone with him anywhere in the Palace.”

He emphasizes the last three words to nail it home.

“I can’t even go to the rookery?” I ask sadly.
