I find Rook outside the rookery in human form. “Where is she?” I demand instantly.

He gives me a rueful look. “Rath’Na took her back inside.”

“Oh,” I say, resigned. I should’ve known he’d be lurking around her. “But she’s safe?”

He nods. “Unless you consider Rath’Na a threat?”

“Not really,” I answer carefully. “At least not in that he would physically harm her…”

“But you don’t trust him,” he interjects as I must’ve paused slightly too long.

“Savvie trusts him. We have to give her the benefit of the doubt or risk alienating her. They shared something that none of us can identify with. He gave her courage to escape, she rescued him as a result… it’s a tricky one to get in the middle of. I don’t think any of us should try.”

I see his face fall, but he needs to know. He is a lot younger than I am and clearly naïve when it comes to women and relationships. Not that I’m an expert by any stretch. I have loved one woman in my entire existence, but I’ve been around the block with more than a few females and I’ve learned a thing or two along the way.

“We need to discuss something that you can do, that I can’t, to help keep Savvie safe.” I change the subject.

He nods, accepting it. “What can I do?”

“Fly,” I say, pointing upwards. “You can patrol the skies and make sure that no Light Fae are trying to sneak onto our lands, but also, you can keep an eye out to make sure that Savvie doesn’t leave the Palace again. This was a one off and will not be allowed to happen again. You bring the ravens to her inside if she wants to see them.”

“Done,” he says, taking his responsibility to her seriously. “Although, I think that she will stay inside now. She knows it isn’t safe for her out here.”

“I agree, but rather safe than sorry,” I say and slap him on the back. He stumbles slightly and I hide my smile.

“By the way, thanks for getting rid of my parents. I can’t deal with them,” he grumbles.

“No worries. She knows she shouldn’t have brought him here,” I say gruffly.

“She’s such a selfish bitch!” he blurts out suddenly as we head back to the Palace on foot.

I raise an eyebrow at his outburst but refrain from speaking. He needs to vent, so I will let him. That way he won’t arrive at Savvie’s room under a cloud and ruin what I hope will be a very pleasant evening.

“Can you believe she found a way to make this about her? I mean, the fucking nerve of her! I would never use Savvie that way. Ever! I love her for her, not because she will be Queen! Ugh!” He kicks out at nothing, but it seems to help calm him down a bit.

After a beat, he mutters, “Sorry.”

“Don’t be. Let it all out now before we go back inside.”

“I have. I’m good,” he says and gives me that bright smile of his. “You know, there’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”

“What’s that?”

“Your role with Savvie. You dominate her, give her a punishment and she finds it thrilling.”

I stay silent as I assume he’s not done yet, even though it takes him a while to get his next thought out.

“I want to be the one that soothes her, you know, during, after, whatever.” He shrugs as if it doesn’t matter to him, but clearly it does, or he wouldn’t have said anything.

“You can,” I say. “You find a role with her that suits you both.”

“You don’t mind?” he asks nervously. “I don’t want to get in the way of what you and she have…”

“You won’t,” I tell him firmly, stopping to put my hand on his shoulder.

He swallows. “But I want to know what it’s like to dominate her. Not all the time,” he adds hurriedly. “Just now and again.”

“So, switch with her. It will keep her on her toes.” I give his shoulder a squeeze and let him go.
