He backs off instantly as I use Gramps’s official title. He knows it’s serious now. He gives me a stiff nod. “Don’t be too long. I have something that I need you for.”
“Oh?” I ask archly. “What’s that then?”
He takes my hand and presses it against his growing length, which even in its semi-hard state is so huge it makes my mouth water. “This, Princess.”
I lick my lips. “I’ll be back soon,” I promise and then I Puffport out before I lose all of my willpower and ride that monster until I sob with joy.
I land outside of Gramps’s office door and knock firmly.
“Enter,” he calls out.
Pushing open the door, I peer around and he looks up from his desk. “Have you got a minute?” I ask.
“Savvie!” he booms. “Of course, come in, come in. There is something that I need to talk to you about.”
“Same here,” I state and sit down. “You first,” I add politely. He is still the King after all.
He folds his hands in front of him on the desk. “It’s about your little escapee friend,” he starts with a reproving look. “Let me finish,” he says as I open my mouth to defend Rath’Na. “I believe it is your intention to bring him on as your chief advisor. Are you sure about that?”
“Yes,” I answer straight away. “I trust him completely and he is good for my state of mind.”
“He isallDragon,” he points out, waving his handaround before he puts it back in front of him. “How do I explain that to my people?”
This the the perfect opener for whatIhave to say, so I lean forward and place my hand over his. “You don’t. I do,” I state with meaning.
He gets it and searches my eyes for a very long time.
Just when I’m about to say something – anything – to break the awkwardness, he says, “Are you ready for that?”
I pull my hand back and fold them in my lap, straightening my back and lifting my chin. “Yes,” I say firmly. “I am ready to be Queen.”
He sighs. “Does Ambrosia have anything to do with this timing?”
At the mention of that vile creature, I grit my teeth, but then relax my clenched jaw. “I won’t lie to you that she has factored into my decision to come to you today, however, it is only a fraction of the reason. You were prepared to retire and hand my mother the throne over twenty years ago. Iknowyou are ready to let go, and I am more than ready to take this Kingdom by the horns. I want it, Ineedit. It is my destiny and I am finally in a place within myself to rule this Kingdom to the best of my ability. I know that I will be a great Queen and I know that Rath’Na will have a lot to do with that. He doesn’t let me second guess myself. He doesn’t protect me, or pander to me. He gives me what I need, so he stays as long as he wants to. I am more than happy to informmypeople of his position here.”
Gramps lets out a loud laugh, but he isn’t laughing at me. He sounds almost relieved. “You have no idea how good it is to hear you say all of that, girl. I’ll give you what you want. The day after tomorrow. The day after that you will wed Trey and produce an heir in a timely manner. Although Ambrosia is claiming she has the heir to the LightFae Kingdom growing inside her, she will struggle to convince the Fae to accept the child as the blessed one, especially if the Queen of the Dark Fae is also with child. I do not need to stress to you how important this is.”
His fierce look tells me everything I need to know. Unfortunately, since mother lifted the curse, there is a strong possibility that I might be pregnant, but with any one of my men’s babies. A few days alone with Treymighthave made a difference, but the realist in me says not. It doesn’t bother me. I don’t care anymore. At some point, Trey will get me pregnant and Rath’Na seems quite clear thatmychild will be the blessed one. I’m not concerned. I can’t tell any of this to Gramps though. He will hit the roof if he knows I’m bedding all of these men, unmarried to any of them. He might suspect, but nothing has been confirmed.
I bite my lip. Unless you count when Trey blurted out about Theo. I’m not sure if Gramps believed him or not.
“You don’t,” I say to appease him, and he lightens up his glare a fraction. I get the feeling he wants to say more about my other men, but I don’t give him a chance as I stand up and with a curtsey, I turn to the door.
“One more thing,” he says, and I curse under my breath.
I turn back to him with a serene smile and a questioning look.
“You promised me before that you would bind that baby’s Dragon powers at birth. You stand by that?”
My mouth goes dry, but I nod stiffly. “I do,” I say and at his nod back, I take my leave. I hate this secret that is weighing on me, but I have to keep it no matter what.
“Hey,” Trey says, appearing around the corner and scaring me half to death. “Everything okay with the old man?”
“Shh!” I hiss. “Don’t let him hear you call him that. But, yes. I will inform you all together, please.”
He smiles and takes my hand, kissing it before we fall into a silence as we make our way back through the Palace on foot.
“About the baby…” he starts.
