“That’s what I know, and right now, I’m on the fence about letting you stick around or kicking your ass out of the Realm for good.”

I resist the urge to tell him that he could try and kick my ass, but he would fail. Epically fail. “What are your reasons for letting me stay?” I ask instead, intrigued.

He looks surprised but answers me, nonetheless. “Savvie trusts you. I have yet to determine why and make no mistake that Iwillfind out why. I trust her, so I respect her decision. For now. I also see how she looks at you,” he adds gruffly.

My old heart thumps, and the nerves that shoot through me are unexpected yet thrilling. “Oh? How is that?” I ask nonchalantly.

“She wants you. The gods only know why, you old bastard. Fuck’s sake, you were probably alive when the Earth was made.”

“Old as dirt,” I chirp with a smile.

He snorts. “Yeah. So, if you fucking hurt her in any way, I don’t care who you are, I will kill you and probably die trying. I get that, but I make my point, so you know someone is watching you.”

“Watch away. I have no ill intentions.”

“That’s undecided, but you get the benefit of the doubt. For now,” he adds again.

“What if she chooses to act on her… feelings?”

I wait with bated breath for his answer.

Eventually, he sighs. “I will honor her choices, always. I will never fight her unless I truly feel she is in danger of being hurt, or worse. Convince me of your motives, old man, and I will accept you if she chooses to be with you.”

“I don’t owe you anything. Besides, what happens is between me and her,” I say.

“Not when there are four other menbetweenyou and her,” he says smugly.

“There is nothing to say until,if,she decides to be with me,” I answer carefully.

He nods, looking resigned by that. “Promise me one thing?”

“I’ll try.”

“Promise me that you won’t lay a finger on her unless she wants you to. If you promise me that, then I will know you mean her no harm.”

I slap my hand on his shoulder. “That I can do, young Dragon, that I can do.”

“I guess there’s nothing left to say then.”

“Actually, there is… the other men… willtheystand in my way?” I am not bothered either way, but it would be easier for me if they don’t.

Trey searches my eyes. “Since you inquired about it, it makes me think that you care,” he drawls. “I’ll see to it that they don’t,ifSavvie decides to give your ancient knob a polish.” He snorts at his own joke and then disappears, leaving me to roll my eyes at him.

I look up at the rumbling sky again to see the raven circling above me. He swoops down and lands in front of me, Shifting to his human form. He is completely naked but unashamed of that, and I can see why. He is an impressive sight.

“May I help you?” I ask, leaning on my staff.

It draws his eyes to it briefly, but then he looks me in the eye. “I heard your conversation with Trey. Do you plan on talking to all of us, or just him?”

“About what?” I ask innocently, mostly in an effort to test his patience.

“Savannah,” he grits out, holding onto his temper to my amusement.

“Oh, that. You have something to say?”

“Actually, yeah, I do,” he says and folds his arms over his chest.

“Do enlighten me as to your thoughts, little raven.”
