But Savvie’s eyes are on me, searching mine as she approaches me. “Can you explain?” she asks.
“Uhm,” I gulp. “I think so…”
All eyes are on me.
Clearing my throat, I hold my hand out for the raven. She hops onto my hand, to my surprise. I’d expected her to rebuff me.
“You’ve formed a deeper bond with the birds. They’re trying to get to you so that you can…”
“Can what?” she asks.
“I hesitate to use the word ‘control’ but have no other word for it. They are waiting for your instructions. You can command them to do your bidding. You have tethered this one to you already. No matter where she goes now, you will be able to call her back.”
Savvie reaches out and touches the silver strand connecting her and the bird. “I see,” she murmurs.
The raven abandons me and flaps back over to settle on Savvie’s shoulder.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if you could Shift,” I add with a low murmur.
“Into a raven?” Trey barks out, startling the bird on her shoulder. “Isn’t thatyourtrick?”
“It’snota trick,” I snarl, pissed because he knows that I’m currently unable.
The raven caws loudly, and I automatically go to her, stroking her head with the back of my finger. The spark I feel doesn’t go unnoticed by Savvie. Her eyes widen and she raises her eyebrow. I pull my hand back, feeling the burn of electricity, but it is almost like it jolted whatever was wrong with me back into action. I didn’t know the small hole in my essence was missing until it returned by me touching the bird while she was touching Savvie.
When Ambrosia killed me, she took a small part of me, a part of me that was essential for me to Shift. I know that if I try now, I will do it.
The relief that floods me, makes me grin broadly. “When you have a minute, try it,” I whisper to Savvie.
She nods eagerly, excitement flashing in her eyes. I hope that I’m right. I’m fairly sure that I am.
“This will make getting to Ambrosia even easier,” she says with a triumphant gleam in her eyes. “But first things first. I have to tell my Kingdom and hers, that I am their goddess.”
I had a feeling that is what this meeting was about. It has come a lot sooner than I first thought, but she is right. In order for us all to move forward, we have to unite the Kingdoms, and she is the only one who can do that. I cast my glance at Rath, and that little shiver that I have been ignoring tickles the back ofmy neck. There is something on his ultimate agenda that I don’t think he has even told Savvie yet. It’s not that I don’t trust him, I do. I know that he has taken his role in Savvie’s life seriously, and that includes all of us well. But I just wonder about his goal to reunite the Fae and Dragons. Is there a deeper reason for it than just the harmony of the original creatures?
I guess only time will tell.
Chapter 18
Theo
I’m struggling to keep up with everything moving so fast. It’s ironic because I am the fastest-moving thing in here. I tend to forget that I have a power all of my own. Even though it is more defensive rather than offensive, I can still kick a bit of ass in a fists and feet fight if need be.
“You are going to do this now?” I ask quietly.
“Yep,” Savvie says. “Everyone is already here. The announcement that I was going to make is going to have to wait a while. Hope that’s okay?” She looks at every man in the room.
We all agree because what else can we say? If we make this about us and not her, we will just look selfish and unsupportive. Honestly, I wish that she’d made the announcement already. That way, we could all be out in the open about how we feel.
“What brought this on?” I ask suddenly. “Jerrick said there was a threat.”
“Oh, yes!” Savvie exclaims. “I forgot. Ambrosia has declared war on me! Silly bitch. The best way to knock her down a peg is to bring her army ontomyside. There is only one way to do that. I will inform the Light Fae that I am their goddess and that Iwill be uniting the Fae starting immediately, and that all discord between us will end.”
“Just like that?” I murmur.
Her violet eyes, now tinged with flecks of silver, pin mine.
“Yes. Just like that.”
