He grits his teeth, but I can tell that he wants to say more.
“I have to speak to my people first,” I say gently. “That’s the most important thing.”
“Of course,” he says, letting it go.
For now.
We make our way down to my office, where Petle is waiting.
“Are you ready to make your announcement?” she asks. “Everyone is already here, waiting.”
“Oh,” I say in surprise. I’d expected to be left waiting while everyone re-gathered. “I guess this is it, then.”
I turn to face my men, assembled behind me, and give them a bright smile.
“We’ll be with you every step of the way,” Jerrick says, taking my hand.
“I know,” I say and pull my hand back. Taking a deep breath, I head into the Great Hall, the enormous room packed out with Dark Fae of all sizes and ages.
I gulp as all the eyes turn to me.
Unsteadily, I make my way onto the stage and clasp my hands in front of me.
“Thank you for attending. I apologize profusely for making you come out here twice, but yesterday some news fell into my lap that I needed to deal with.” I smile, getting them on my side.
“I would like to make an official announcement or two today. The first being that I will be marrying Trey’Za as soon as we can make the arrangements, but I would also like to inform you all that Trey won’t be my only husband. I will be taking four other men as my husbands once the heir to the Kingdom has been conceived.”
I pause to let that sink in. There is a hushed silence as if they don’t quite know what to do with that information. I use it, not letting them take the time to think about it too hard. I’ve told them, and that’s that as far as I’m concerned.
“Secondly,” I say loudly. “It has been brought to my attention recently, that I am more than just your Queen.” I let my wings pop out and I open my hand where my wand appears. Gripping it tightly, I hear the whispers and murmurs. “At thevery beginning, when the Fae and the Dragons lived in harmony, there was a goddess who lived among you. She created you from her life’s blood, and you thrived as a beautiful new race. She was killed, and her memory was lost to myth and legend, but she lived. Her name was Savenir.”
Gasps and grunts.
I smile slowly as they seem to be making the connection that I’m laying out for them.
“For a long time, her spirit searched for a being to pass her power onto and she has chosen me. As your Queen and as a direct descendant to her bloodline, I am now the Fae goddess.”
There is absolute uproar. The noise is deafening, and I take an involuntary step back.
The rush of emotions I feel coming from all sides, makes me stumble slightly until I get a hold of it and sort out the maelstrom sweeping over me.
Most of them don’t believe me. Some do, but it’s a wishy-washy belief. The kind that comes from accepting whatever your leader tells you to.
“She brought the ravens back to life!” Someone in the back shouts. “I know of no ordinary Fae that can reanimate the dead!”
I hide my smile as I see it was Rook who took the raven by the wings and stepped way out of his comfort zone to throw that out there.
It works perfectly. Everyone has already heard the rumor if they didn’t see me outright bring the birds back.
Wondrous eyes turn towards me, and I feel the shift in emotions. There is still skepticism, but I can work with that.
“All I want is harmony between the Dark and Light,” I say. “I want to make us as strong as we can be together. United. I will not use this power that has been bestowed on me, for harm or for oppression. The power is kindness and goodness, the nature all around us. It is peace.”
I relax completely as they fall under my spell and start to clap, slowly at first but then more vigorously. I can win them all over, I know I can.
That is until someone Ineverthought would betray me, steps forward and shouts out. “Don’t believe a word of it. She wants to crush you!”
“Fuck,” I murmur, gaping at the intruder. “You have got to be kidding me!”
