I press my lips together, so I don’t smile.
“I’m working on it,” I grit out.
“Let me have a crack.”
Against my better judgment, I sigh and capitulate. We can stand here and argue about it for another hour and she will still get her own way, “Fine. But I’m coming with you.”
She puts her hand on my chest. “No. I want to do this alone. In fact, go back upstairs. I’ll be fine.”
Giving her a stare like she has lost her mind, she glares back at me, her violet eyes now tinged with silver, beyond annoyed.
“I’m not leaving you, so forget it,” I growl.
She rolls her eyes. “Take that attitude upstairs with you,” she says, shooing me away.
I shake my head at her. She is getting her own way whether I like it or not.
“Go on,” she says, giving me a shove. “I’m a goddess. I can handle one asshole.”
“You know that this goes against everything that I know is right? It’s this type of situation that is the problem,” I point out.
“Go!” she roars, her wings popping out and flapping wildly as her temper gets the better of her.
Hands up, I back away. I will do as she says now, or she is probably going to kick my ass. “When you are done, we need to talk,” I snarl, even though I’m not angry with her, just at this whole damn situation, and turn my back to march off back up the stairs.
“Okay, my love,” she calls after me, all sweetness and light.
She is infuriating!
But I love her so much, I would die without her in my life now.
Deciding to do something constructive with my time while I wait for her, I gather my army near the barracks and tell them in no uncertain terms that they will kneel before their new Queen tomorrow and pledge their allegiance in a blood oath to her. If there are any more traitors in the army, it will weed them out, painfully and brutally.
Good.
These measures are needed now.
I’ve been too soft since Savvie agreed to be with me, my entire focus has been on her but notabouther. This will change and I don’t give a rat’s ass how this goes down.
It happens.
It’s too bad that we can’t order the entire Kingdom to do the same, but it’s not practical and will not be taken well. Plus, Savvie won’t agree to it. She won’t want to cast doubt on her people, most of whom will support her.
After I have dealt with my army, I find myself at a loose end. I’m itching to get back to Savvie, but she will only kick my ass if I go back so I wander out of the Palace gates and find myself on the road to the Light Fae Palace. Ambrosia is the problem here. If we eliminate her, then Savvie will be safe. I grit my teeth, my jaw clenched tightly as I know what I have to do. It’s simple. I have to go there, find a way inside and kill her. It’s the only way she will stop causing trouble. Yes, Drake will have my head, but if Savvie is safe, then that is all that matters.
As I approach the border, I hold my hands up.
“Jerrick,” Hans, my Light Fae counterpart, growls. “What do you want?”
“I want to see Ambrosia,” I state. “Go and tell her I’m here.” I don’t think that she will refuse me, in spite of my title and relationship with Savvie. She has expressed an interest in fucking me on more than one occasion. Something that I have kept from Savvie for her own good. It will only eat at her if she knew how close I’d come to giving in one day, a few weeks before she arrived in the Kingdom.
“Fuck you. I don’t take orders from you,” Hans snarls.
“She’ll want to see me,” I state. “She’ll be mad if you didn’t tell her I was here.”
He pales and I know I nailed it. She always has been a volatile creature. I can only imagine what this whole situation is doing to her.
Hans snaps his fingers at another Guard who rushes off.
