Does he have a plan?
Is this all a part of some elaborate plan that he hasn’t filled us in on?
I have to trust him. Don’t I?
Still hesitating because I’m not sure what I’m seeing; this could be going either way right now.
Jerrick turns to the windows and walks over. He glares at me and mouths, “Go.”
Taking a moment to search his eyes, in an instant, I trust what he is doing. He is grim but determined. He is doing whatever this is for the right reasons.
I flap my wings and take off, flying back to the Dark Fae Kingdom, popping through the magickal barrier as easily as if it weren’t there. I’m guessing that I have always been able to do that. I’m not all Dark Fae. My half-Shifter side must disrupt the magick enough for me to be able to pass through.
As I fly back to the Palace, I hope that I’ve made the right decision. Either way, I need to tell Savvie right away where he is.
I see Savvie standing near the barracks, surrounded by the ravens. She has tethered them all to her now. Each one has a silver ribbon of magick tying it to her. She is smiling, but she has her hands on her hips. She is frustrated, no doubt wondering where Jerrick is.
She stalks forward as I land in front of her and Shift.
“Do you know where Jerrick is?” she barks instantly.
No kiss or even a hello. Just a sharp query about one of her other men.
The darkness that is building in me since I really died, starts to feed on the paranoia that she doesn’t care about me. That I’m only here with her to boost her magick.
“He’s fine. Let’s find the other men. We need to talk.” It takes everything that I have to act as if I don’t want to crawl into a hole and die.
“What is it?” she demands.
“I’ll tell you when everyone is there.” I take her hand, and she is about to Puffport us out when I stop her.
“Wait,” I say, the fear and paranoia building up to a crescendo. “Do you really love me?”
She gives me a puzzled look.
“Do you love me or am I just here as your familiar?” I blurt out not giving her a chance to answer.
Her features soften and she takes my face in her hands. She presses a light kiss to my lips. “I love you, Raize,” she says quietly. “I can see the darkness taking you over. Don’t let it,” she begs. “Please.”
I blink, taken aback. She can see the darkness. I’ve been trying to hide it, but I’m growing weary of being so cheerful. I just want to stare at nothing and be left alone for a while.
“I’m fine,” I say, but she knows I’m lying.
“A couple of the men know a thing or two about darkness,” she mutters. “If you can’t speak to me, please talk to one of them. I don’t want to lose you.”
I stare blankly back at her. I have nothing to give her in that moment. I feel empty, completely devoid of any feeling or emotion. But I force a smile on my face anyway.
“Have you tried to Shift yet?” I ask, ignoring her plea.
“Not yet,” she says carefully. I can see she is getting agitated. She wants to know about Jerrick. She feels like I’m holding her up.
“Try it now,” I demand, wanting to keep the information that I have from her for a moment. I want her attention focused on me.
“Now?” she asks. “It’s not the best time. I need to know about Jerrick.”
“He’s fine,” I say, dismissing it. “Try Shifting now, please. I want to fly with you.”
“I don’t know what to do,” she says.
