I take her hands. “Close your eyes and think raven.”

Silence.

“I’m going to need more instruction than that,” she giggles after a beat.

“Look, if you asked Trey, he would no doubt give you a long, beautiful, prolific tuition on how to do it. I don’t have that. I think about Shifting into a raven, and I do it,” I snap.

She blinks and bites her lip. I see the tears well up in her eyes and feel awful.

“I’m sorry,” I murmur. “I didn’t mean to upset you.” I draw her closer, taking her in my arms.

“It’s okay,” she whispers.

“No, it isn’t.” I sigh. If I keep this up, I am going to push her away and lose her. “We can try later.”

She nods and Puffports us out to the Dining Hall, landing right next to Rath, Trey and Theo.

Rath and Trey appear engaged in a deep conversation while Theo sits and stares morosely into a jug of ale.

“Come, we need to talk,” she murmurs to them.

They look up and smile. “Of course,” Rath says and stands up. Trey follows. Theo only rises when Rath places a hand on his shoulder. When he stands, and I see his haggard face, it shocks me. Something is very off with him.

He gazes longingly at Rath, not Savvie, as Rath slips his hand into Theo’s.

I see Savvie’s eyes fix on their joined hands for a moment before she clears her throat.

“Take this,” Trey says to her, picking up a plateful of food. “I don’t even know the last time you ate.”

She shrugs and Puffports out, leaving the rest of us to follow her to the bedroom.

She sits in the window seat. Trey places the plate next to her, and then a silence falls that is beyond uncomfortable.

“Speak,” she commands.

I guess that’s my cue to fill them in on what I saw. Taking a deep breath, I start at the beginning when I followed Jerrick down the path to the Light Fae lands.

Chapter 27

Savannah

Listening to everything that Rook says, I take it in. Circling it around and around my head, trying to see if what he saw was Jerrick betraying me or doing what I did with Anders.

Which means only one thing.

He is about to kill Ambrosia, if he hasn’t already.

My Queen side is keenly aware of this, but the woman, the lover, needs more.

“She was naked?” I ask into the silence.

I pick up a grape from the plate and eat it while I wait for Rook’s answer.

“Yes.”

“He was kneeling before her?”

“Yes.”
