Savvie grips my hand tightly as the time has come to get this done.
Rath drops his blood into the potion and then drinks a small bit of it. A fast wind whips up, and then he bleeds even more into the cup he’s holding, this time adding enough to fill it.
“Theo,” he murmurs and hands him the cup.
Theo takes it, and drinks, and then Rath slashes his wrist, bleeding him into the cup to hand to Savvie.
Her face remains impassive as she takes it with a steady hand, but her other one squeezes mine even tighter.
We all watch as she lifts it to her lips and takes a big gulp and then slams the cup down, swallowing audibly and then shaking her hand loose from mine.
“How long?” she croaks out.
Rath shrugs. “Not really sure.”
She nods, and then a silence falls. I stand up and pull her up too. “Can we have a quick talk?” I ask.
“What is it?” she asks quietly, letting me lead her over to the corner of the room.
“Do you still plan to marry me?” I ask the burning question.
Her surprised look sends a shot of relief through me, but I need words as well to feel completely secure. “Of course,” she says. “Why ever would you think not?”
I shrug, feeling foolish now. “Just that you said to the Dark Fae that a child between us was moot. I didn’t know if that included a wedding as well.”
She gives me a sheepish look. “I’m sorry that I said that without discussing it with you. I was thinking on my feet. Yes, a child between us is no longer needed to unite the Kingdoms, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to marry you or have a child with you.”
“And what about what I asked you earlier?”
She sighs. “I don’t think that I’m pregnant yet, but like I’ve said… who can tell? I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel, how soon the signs will be, how long it will take. I just don’t know. Please be patient, and I will let you know, all of you know, when –if– I’m pregnant now. Okay?”
There is nothing that I can say now that won’t come across as sounding desperate and annoying.
“Okay,” I mutter and then frown at her. “That potion had better not be harmful.”
She rolls her eyes and then turns to Theo. “So, how do you turn into a Vampire?”
He raises his eyebrow at her and then chuckles. “Sure you need an answer to that?” he asks and goes to her in a flash of Vampire speed.
I’m guessing that her fangs are showing now.
I take a breath and try to let go of the protective air that I feel towards her. She will be no less fearless or reckless if she is pregnant. She has everything to live for, and I have to trust that.
Chapter 31
Savannah
Theo cups my face and runs his thumbs over my lips. I part them and he presses them to my teeth. The tangy smell of blood hits my nostrils and I balk.
I have fangs.
I grip his wrists, my eyes wide. “It worked?”
He nods, a look of awe and lust mingling in his eyes. He drops his mouth to mine and kisses me gently before he flicks his tongue over the tips of my fangs, slicing his tongue open.
A soft groan escapes his lips and he deepens the kiss.
I kiss him back. It feels really weird trying to dodge the sharp fangs, but I give up and revel in the pain as they slice across my tongue and our blood mixes together to form a nectar that I suddenly find so intoxicating I need more.
