“Hans.”
“How are you doing today?”
“What’s it to you?” he asks, but with less of a growl than before.
“Tell me something. How do you like having Ambrosia as your Queen?”
The look of utter disgust and his sneer tell the whole story. “That bitch shouldn’t be here.”
“I’m here to remove her. I just need you to let me in.”
He drops his sword slightly. “How?” he asks.
“Do you want the long version or the short version?” I offer up the choice of the day.
He falters. “Uhm… long?”
Okay, so he didn’t sound so sure of himself, but, well, he asked for it.
So I drop my hands and start talking.
I tell them about Savenir and who she was. I tell them that her power was always meant to be in use, but it was waitingfor the right Fae to come along. With confidence, I inform them that I am the goddess, showing them my wings and my ability to grow an apple tree from just the core, stashed in my pocket, that somehow made it through my raven Shift and Rath magickly giving me back my clothes.
Their suspicion doesn’t abate, but it is lessened.
“So what?” a lesser Guard snarls. “You want to come here and do what she did? Just take over and rule us?”
“My goal is to unite the Fae,” I say lightly. “I want us to live in harmony, no more fighting. Ambrosia has committed treason against both of our sides, and I want her removed and brought to justice. Then, we can move forward. I know it will take time, I’m not expecting you all to be as accommodating about this as the Dark Fae, but I know that, in time, you will want what we want.”
Silence.
I can see the glint of the swords from their land's bright sunlight, but I don’t even blink.
Hans is searching my eyes, trying to gauge if what I’m saying is true.
He finally lets out a sigh. “The Light Fae can’t take another asshole coming in and trying to outdo each other to be the worst fucking Ruler we have ever had,” he says carefully.
“I get that, completely. You have had a terrible time and I’m sorry for that. If we unite, that won’t happen anymore. We can all be happy and at peace.”
“I don’t speak for the Light Fae,” he says.
“I know, but all I’m asking of you today, Hans, is for you to let us through so that we can remove Ambrosia from power.”
He steps back, dropping his sword. “Then, you shall have safe passage.”
“Thank you,” I say sincerely and step forward.
The men inch forward as well
“Do you require assistance?” he asks stiffly.
I give him a smile. “Thank you for your offer. I’ll let you know.”
His face falls in disappointment so I backtrack.
“Come with us. If she has anyone loyal to her here, the assistance will be appreciated.”
He nods and indicates with his hand that his team move forward.
