“Sorry about that,” he says, standing up and addressing the Light Fae who are picking themselves up off the ground. “No harm done.”
“Are you fucking joking?” Hans growls, looking up at the gaping hole in the ceiling.
“Nothing that can’t be fixed,” Rath says jovially and snaps his fingers, fixing the mess instantly.
Seconds later, the rest of my men land back in the room and fall onto me. I stash my wand quickly, still clutched in my hand from when Pyleah hit me with the orb.
“We thought you were dead,” Theo whispers.
“She was,” Rath says coolly. “Hellebore.”
At Jerrick’s sharp intake of breath, I look at him. He gathers me up in his arms. “The goddess?”
“The Vampire?” Theo adds hopefully.
“Not sure,” I say honestly. “I guess we know where Harris got his stash from,” I mutter and turn back to the Light Fae.
Hans gives me a pitying once-over, which I ignore, and say. “Ambrosia isn’t carrying the heir to the throne. She has lied to you about being pregnant.”
“That’s a lie!” Ambrosia hisses, but she is unable to move out of her corner as Rath is standing too close to her and she fears him more than anything else right now. I can see it in her eyes. I cansmellher fear coming off her in waves.
Feeling a twinge in my side, I ignore that as well. It’s nothing more than the Hellebore curse still trying to get to me, but my powers won’t let it.
Stalking over to Ambrosia, I grab her arm, hauling her to her feet. “Move,” I say and give her a shove. “I’m taking you back to the Dark Fae lands where you will stand trial before your parents and sentenced.”
There is too much sobbing and weeping to understand what she says, but when Rath grabs hold of her arm and shakes her, she stops and whimpers like a hurt kitten. He glares at her and she shuts it.
The stabbing in my side is now getting hard to ignore. I frown as something doesn’t add up here. If she threw Hellebore at me, expecting it to kill me, why did she curse me with a long and lonely life?
Shaking my head, I give Hans a bright smile. “You no longer have to worry about her. I hope that this is one step closer to you being able to trust me and that when you feel like you want to know more, my door is always open.”
He nods slowly and looks at the rest of the Guards, plus the numerous spectators that were drawn to the fracas.
“We will discuss what you’ve said. I will come to you when we’re ready to talk further.”
It is way more than I could’ve hoped for.
My knees wobble when I take a step forward and I take in a deep breath, placing my hand on my side.
“Savvie?” Jerrick asks, gripping me under my elbow.
I try to swallow but my mouth has gone dry.
“Savvie?” Jerrick asks again, this time louder.
“I’m okay,” I tell him, even though my head is fuzzy. “Let’s go.” I give him a smile and grab hold of Ambrosia again, urging Rath to let her go so I Puffport us out.
Taking tremendous satisfaction, I throw her into a cell in the dungeon. “I’ll send your parents down. Don’t think that they will take pity on you. They are as disgusted with your behavior as I am. More so, in fact.”
“I will get my throne back from you. You are nothing but a filthy whore who doesn’t deserve to have that crown on her head,” she hisses.
Breathing in and out, I figure, fuck it. I’m done taking the high road with this cunt. Drawing my fist back, I punch her in the face so hard, she falls on her ass.
She spits and splutters, but I don’t stop there. I grab a handful of her hair and lean down to snarl in her face. “I have wanted to bring you down a notch or two for years. If I didn’t love and respect my grandparents so much, you would be lying dead on the floor of the Light Fae Palace right now with no one to mourn you.”
“Fuck you,” she growls.
Punching her in the face again, I then kick her in the ribs for good measure. It’s petty, but it makes me feel so much better for all the shit she has put me through over the years.
