“Yes, yes, yes!” I flung my arms up in triumph, like I’d just won a medal. Daddy B chuckled but didn’t tell me to calm down. He loved it when I was silly and loud. “My babies are gonna need lunch too, Daddy. Can they come?”

“Of course they’re welcome to come too. If we’re having a picnic, you’ll need to change into your play clothes.

“You gonna help me get dressed?” I loved it when my Daddy helped me get ready. It made me feel like I was little and he was big, and that it was okay to let him take care of me. Daddy B chased after me with tickle fingers while I ran into the house, squealing with laughter. He chased me all the way through the house until we got to the bedroom, where he cornered me right up against the bed.

“You caught me, Daddy B.” I put my hands on my hips and gave him a stern look. “What are you going to do now?”

Daddy took a step forward and said, “I’m going to kiss you.” And then another step. “I’m going to help you get dressed.” And another one. “I’m going to help my baby boy have a really great day.” He took one final step forward, looming over me and forcing me to crane my neck back to look up at him. “And then I’m going to remind him how much his Daddy loves him.”

There was nothing left to do but wrap my arms around his waist and snuggle close. This was the life I wanted with him, and it almost felt unfair to be this happy.

“Thank you, Daddy.” He threaded his fingers through my curls and tilted my head up.

“Thank you for what?”

“For being everything I ever wanted.”

“I’m the one who should say thank you because you let me be who I want to be.”

“Who’s that?”

“Your Daddy.”

I wasn’t sure what to say, so I hugged him harder. It was totally worth it when Daddy put his hands on my butt and hefted me up so I could wrap my legs around his waist. I wasn’t really that small, but Daddy B made me feel little in all the right wayswhen he was around. “And now it’s time to get some food. What sounds good?”

“PB&J.” I tossed my head back and shouted up into the trees. The squirrels didn’t care when I was loud, and neither did Daddy. “And pretzzies. And mellows. Apples. Crackers.”

“Who’s eating all that?”

“Me,” I said proudly. “I’m gonna stuff it aaaaaaall down into my legs and fill ’em up too.”

“Uh, neither of us is a biology major, but I’m almost sure that’s not how anatomy works.” Daddy hefted me higher on his hip and walked toward the cabin. I lay my head on his shoulder and soaked in the warmth of the afternoon sun and his body heat. Once inside, he headed straight for the kitchen and set me down on the counter. I wasn’t ready to let him go, so I kept my legs locked around his waist to prevent him from escaping.

“Gotta stay wit’ me, Daddy.” My arms looped around his neck as I drew him closer. “I catched you.”

“Now that you’ve got me, what are you going to do with me?”

“I want to keep you. Forever and ever.” Daddy B knitted his eyebrows together. “Is that bad?”

“Nope, it’s absolutely perfect,” Daddy B said before his mouth found its way to my throat. He traced the tendons with his tongue. When he hit the pulse point, my heartbeat went into a chaotic rhythm. “If we keep going, we’ll miss lunch.”

“Silly goose, if we’re making it, then we can’t miss it.”

“So you’re not hungry anymore?” Daddy’s hands skimmed up my body, hip to shoulder. A shudder ran through me as the pads of his fingers barely touched me. On the return path, his touch was firm and kneaded my hips when he got there.

“Not for food.” I tried to be sexy, but I ruined it by giggling.

“Say less, baby boy.”His nose nuzzled against my neck, and his scruffy beard tickled, but only in a good way. I rubbed myhands against his cheek because I loved the way it felt under my fingers.

“I like this, Daddy.”

“Hmm, I like you.”

“Just like?”

“Maybe a little bit more.” I pulled back so he could see my serious face, but it was hard not to laugh when I saw his mouth twitching to keep himself from laughing. I gave him my sternest look. He wasn’t intimidated at all, but he did kiss me, so that was probably better anyway. “A lotta bit more.”

I didn’t wanna wait. My body had taken on a mind of its own as I arched into him, trying to find any kind of friction or relief. The need to feel him inside me was overwhelming and crashed over me like a wave. Whatever thoughts I’d had about lunch were long gone. All I needed was him and to remember how much he loved me, so I could remind him of the same.
