“Why the fuck is your wife so obsessed with Autumn?” he snaps back.
His anger quickly switches to confusion, which pisses Rocco off even more. “What are you talking about?”
“She keeps trying to get Autumn to talk to her. Go out with the other old ladies. Hang out as a group. Why? It’s fucking creepy.”
“You mean, trying to get Autumn back into the fold with the rest of the women is considered obsessed? The woman who by all accounts isolated herself by being one of the women who wanted to leave your ass when we had that shit going on with the Slashers?”
It’s Rocco’s turn to look confused. “What?”
“Lex wants Autumn back in with the old ladies. Your girl created the island she sits on alone, and Lex wasn’t the only one who thought Autumn got real fucking annoying when she’d bitch about all the torture she went through when she didn’t.”
“Yeah, she fucking did.”
Colt lunges at Rocco, and their noses touch as he grips his leather. “No, she didn’t. Lex passed out in my arms after being beaten, waterboarded, and shocked. Melanie has burn scars, and Heidi was strangled until she was knocked out. Autumn got a few shocks. Poor baby.”
It’s not the first time someone has commented on how annoying Autumn got with the whole situation. The truth is, Rocco feels the same, but he’ll never admit to anyone. Especially Colt.
“You think because it wasn’tas badas the others, she has no right to be upset.”
“She doesn’t get to play victim and use it to get sympathy and attention. It’s a slap in the face to listen to her bitch about how terrible it was when my wife was actually tortured. I don’t care what you think, and you will never win this argument with me.”
The frustration Autumn created with everyone can’t be ignored. First, it pushed Rocco towards the strippers at the Puffy Taco. Again. Which landed him in the dog house.
After getting fed up with her antics a few months ago, he fucked a club bunny. Twice. It was out of spite, and he knows it was wrong. And he’s still paying for it. Both with Autumn and with the antibiotics he had to take to clear up the infection.
“Why is Lex so hell-bent on getting her back in with the rest of them, then?” Rocco asks.
“Because Lex has different responsibilities now. Autumn’s also one of her oldest friends, and Lane’s death affected all of us.”
He’d been certain Lex had some type of malicious intent behind it. Maybe he’s wrong. Maybe she’s just trying to mend bridges and make things better. He could really benefit from Autumn becoming her old self again.
“Okay.”
“That’s it?” Colt calls after Rocco pushes him away and walks out to his bike.
Needing to talk to Autumn, he heads home. She’s been upset with the way things have been, and she was less than thrilled with the welcome Lex received when she moved back to Griffin’s Beach.
The lights in the house are all off, and he sighs as he climbs the front steps. It’s barely ten, and she’s already asleep.
“Autumn?” Rocco calls, hoping she’s still awake.
His hopes of getting laid tonight dash with every moment that passes in the dark while he walks into the kitchen for a beer.
“Thought you might be shacking up with Kandi tonight,” Autumn says.
She walks out of the bathroom wearing a robe, and he realizes the flickering light is from the candles. She treated herself to a bath while he was at the clubhouse, and it’s hard not to breathe deeply when he smells the scent of vanilla. His favorite.
“I told you that it’s done with her,” he says.
Nodding, she walks into the room and opens the fridge. The light illuminates her, and he wants to crawl on his hands and knees towards her. When things are good between them, the sex is explosive. He aches for her when she holds out on him, which has been more frequent since catching him cheating.
“You don’t believe me?”
“I’ve accepted the terms of loving you, Rocco.”
“What does that mean?”
She turns, and the robe is loose enough to show off the piercing on her skin between her tits. Licking his lips, he imagines staring at while he’s balls deep inside her. It’s a mesmerizing gemstone he fucking loves.
