“Aren’t you dating my sister-in-law?”

This sobers him up, and he smiles. “I love Klaire. She’s a great girl.”

Kent’s anger radiates off of him, and he looks like he vibrates. It puts her immediately on edge, and she gives him a concerned look. “Kent, baby, you good?”

“I’m fine.”

“You don’t look fine. In fact, I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen you look anything but stoned. You’re kind of freaking me out.”

“Just in the mood for some violence is all.”

She glances between them, willing one of them to say something, but she shrugs when they stay silent. “Okay, well, this is sufficiently weird, and I have to go hydrate my husband before we give Jace and Mel a run for their money. See you boys tonight.”

“We could talk to Lex,” Gavin mutters.

“Still wouldn’t help,” Cole answers back.

Pretending not to hear them, Lex smirks. You just make the biggest mistake of your life by underestimating me, motherfucker.

“I thought you got lost,” Colt says from the bed as she walks into the apartment.

“No, just ran into something weird.” She hands him the water, and she leans against the dresser to drink her own. “Tell me… What do you think about that Cole guy?”

“Honestly?” he asks and downs half the bottle. “He’s too… everywhere. When I move, he’s right underfoot. I get he’s Klaire’s boyfriend, but I swear, that kid wants to date me.”

Giggling, she climbs onto the bed and straddles him over the covers. “What do the others think of him?”

“I don’t think they have strong feelings either way. He doesn’t seem like he’ll last long.”

“Even TK?”

He shrugs. “I don’t think he really cares for him, but he likes that his daughter may be with a man of the club even if he doesn’t necessarily like Cole.”

“Klaire really likes him?”

“I guess so. I think she’s a little too good for him, but you’re too good for me. I can’t say much,” he says with a smirk.

“Do me a favor?” she asks, kissing him and wrapping her arms around his neck.

He kisses her back and presses his strained erection against her. “As long as you take off these clothes, I’ll do just about anything you want.”

“Don’t patch him into the club,” she whispers into his ear.

“Why?”

Tugging the shirt over her head, Lex smirks as he pulls her to him and takes a nipple into his mouth.

“I can’t say, but I promise, it’ll come to light when he gets passed over. And it’ll be better if he’s not wearing the Drifter patch when everyone finds out.”

“And it’s something that would be worth kicking him out for?”

His mouth moves to her other nipple, and she tosses her head back. “People will want to murder him.”

Releasing her, he stares hard at her. “Why?”

“That’s what I can’t tell you,” she whispers and climbs off him to take off the boxers.

“Lex—”
