"I'm sorry, Boss, but when was the last time you went to confession?" he asks, pretending to wipe tearless eyes.
"It doesn't fucking matter. I said the next time I go. Who gives a fuck when I went last?"
I leave my capo standing there as I walk away, his laughter following me for quite some distance. That fucker can laugh during the most horrific
times—Idon't understand him at all.
Once I'm far enough from all the commotion, I pull my phone back out and call Lily. I find it strange that she hasn't texted me back when she should be home by now.
Her phone rings a couple of times and then goes to voicemail.Did she just ignore my call?I try again, and the same thing happens. My anger rises when I try a third time, and it goes straight to voicemail.
Lily knows to answer my calls. If she thinks I'll allow this to go unpunished, she can think again. I didn't know she was angry when I left, so what could I have done in this short time since I left her presence?
I decide to call the phone at the front gate of the estate. The guard answers, and I know it's Louie by his voice.
"Hello, Mr. Falcon. What can I do for you?"
"Louie, what time did Miss Sumner return?"
"I'm sorry, Sir, but Miss Sumner hasn't returned yet."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Richards took the Bentley, but he hasn't returned as of yet."
My heart drops when I hear this news.Where the fuck could she be?
"Okay, thanks," I tell the guard, then instruct, "Call me once they do."
"Will do, Sir."
Immediately, I pull up the tracking app on my phone and the stupid thing needs to update first. While it updates, I hurry back to Elliott and tell him to stay here until everything is taken care of. I then text Joey and Koval to have them meet me here.
I may be overreacting, but something isn't right; I feel it in my gut. When I look at the update progress, it makes me want to throw my fucking phone—it's only at fifty percent. So, help me God, I pray that I'm wrong because if I'm not, I'm going to turn half of this town upside down and burn the rest until I find Lily—until I find my family.
"Calm the fuck down, Jarek! You're not going to do Lily any good in the state you're in!" Joey yells at me as I throw the hotel chair at the mirror, busting it into pieces.
"She was here! Lily was fucking here, and I didn't get here in time!" Spittle flies from my mouth as I breathe heavily. I look at my phone, and the green dot is still here.
"Boss?" I spin around at Koval's voice and find him standing in the doorway to the little bathroom, holding up Lily's phone and collar.
"How the fuck did they know that there was a tracker in the collar, and how did they get it off?" I ask, snatching it from Koval's hand.
Studying it, I can see they used some metal cutter. Some fucker brought a sharp object this close to Lily's neck! They're going to die a very slow death.
Fisting the broken collar, I start giving out orders to have video footage sent to me as soon as possible. I want to know what they're driving!
"Where the fuck is Richards?" I ask Joey.
"I'm not sure. He isn't returning my call."
"I thought you vetted these fuckers!" I glare at my best friend.
"I did! I didn't find anything wrong with any of them!" Joey swears.
"Well, then Richards best be fucking lying somewhere with a bullet in his head or his throat slit by whoever took my girl. If I find out that he's the one who has her, so help me—nothing and no one will stop the hell I bring down on him and all who helped."
"I'm with you, Jarek—trust me," Joey says, gripping my shoulder. "We will get her back, and theywillpay."
