I pull two cups out of the cupboard above the granite bar as Renee walks in. “Would you like a fresh cup of coffee?” I ask.
“Sure, I was just finishing this, anyway,” she says, referencing her cup and picking a decaf hazelnut. “My boyfriend, Corey, had the alarm set for three-thirty this morning. He and his crew had to leave early for a construction job in lower Illinois. They’re building a new school and will be working long hours until they get the facility framed and wrapped for the winter. I couldn’t get back to sleep after he left, so I have had more than enough caffeine for one day,” she explains putting her selection into the machine to brew.
“The Keurig machine and coffee assortments were a gift from Chase when I first moved in,” I say, nodding towards the large bronze sculpted holder. “Please feel free to use the coffee pods and brewer in here. Honestly, there’s more here than I could ever drink alone. I think between the ones in the display and those here in the top drawer there are enough pods to last the two of us the entire year if not more,” I exclaim.
“That’s really sweet of you, Kate. The coffee is excellent. I finished sending out the documentation and everything is scheduled for the simulation. You have several standing meetings on your calendar at Torzial. You’ll want to let me know which ones are critical that you attend or if you expect me to add an online option to them,” she says.
We chat for a while, and when she leaves, I review preliminary information about the ground soil tests which had to be completed due to the intercity location and all the factories surrounding it. The initial test results look promising and appear that state approval should not be a problem.
