“Ghost, what are you talking about? That man—he was after you, not me.”
“That man was just the beginning. If they sent one, they’ll send more. They don’t leave loose ends, and now you’re a part of this, whether you like it or not.”
Her breathing quickened, and I saw the fear creep into her eyes. She slid off the bed, standing with the sheet wrapped around her like armor.
“I-I can’t just leave. What about my shop? My life? You can’t just?—”
“I’m not asking, Ivy.”
She flinched at my tone, and I hated that shit. I didn’t want to scare her but at the same time, she needed to know how serious this shit was. I stood slowly, walking toward her, my voice dropping low.
“I’m telling you this because I care about you. If you stay, you die, and I won’t let that shit happen.”
“Why me? I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t ask for you,” she whispered.
I reached out, cupping her face in both hands.
“You think I asked for you? You think I wanted to come into your world, fuck your peace up, and make you a target? I didn’t… but the shit is done. Now I gotta’ protect you the only way I know how.”
She blinked back tears. “I’m scared.”
I kissed her forehead. “I know, but I got you. I promise.”
She didn’t move, just stood there trembling, overwhelmed and still trying to process all of this. So, I did the one thing I knew would quiet her mind. I dropped to my knees, grabbed her by the thighs, and pulled her into me.
“Let me help you breathe, Specs.”
Her hands found my shoulders as I dragged the sheet down and exposed her pussy, still puffy and glistening from earlier. I kissed her inner thighs, slow and steady, tasting her skin before I buried my face in her sweetness.
I licked her like I was starving. Tongue curling around her clit, mouth sucking until she was moaning again, this time from pleasure, not panic. Her hands slid into my hair, her cries echoing through the room as I devoured her.
“You feel safe now?” I murmured against her pussy, voice thick and ragged.
“Yes,” she gasped. “Ghost, please…don’t stop.”
I kept going until her body trembled and she cried out my name, legs nearly buckling. I caught her, stood up with her in my arms, and laid her back on the bed.
“You’re coming with me. Tonight.”
She nodded, breathing heavy, hair wild across the pillow. “Just promise me you’ll tell me what’s going on. The whole truth. When we get there.”
“I will.” I brushed a kiss over her lips. “Now get dressed. Pack your important shit, anything else you need, I’ll buy it for you.”
“I guess I can put a renovations sign on the shop door, so my customers won’t suspect anything. I’ve never really closed the shop down. What am I gonna do about the bills? And Tori? She already suspects that I?—”
“Specs. Chill, baby.” I cut her off gently but firmly. “Put the sign on the door, I’ll handle the rest. You can hit your girl up from a burner once we’re settled but your phone stays here. That shit’s traceable.”
She was spiraling, and I couldn’t blame her. Hell, I felt even more fucked up for dragging her into this, but it was too late to undo it now. The only way to protect her was to disappear. Handle the threat and bring her back when the smoke cleared.
She exhaled slowly, nodding.
“Okay…”
I stepped back, and grabbed my gun.
“I’ll be right back.”
She slipped out of bed and started pulling clothes from her dresser. I went to the window, gun already loaded, eyes scanning the street. Whatever this was between us, it was real. I just had to make sure she lived long enough to figure out what the fuck we were going to do about it.
