Frey staggered from the impact as splinters rained through the apartment.
“That was a bit much, my love,” said a female voice.
All of them watched in shock as two more people entered the apartment. Both wore dark colors and body armor, their hair pulled back with ties. The woman was taller than Anna and curvaceous, her golden eyes assessing the scene with concern. The man was nearly as tall as Frey, with powerful shoulders and stark white-blonde hair.
They appeared human, but as the pair entered, the magick flowing from the male was more than palpable; it nearly choked him.
Fae.

Holy fucking shit!Gavin and Carrie Gwyneth had just blown open her door and waltzed right in.
As if the day couldn’t get any crazier—getting kidnapped, strangled with magick, Frey deflecting bullets and fighting off a half-dozen guardsandthe obsidian statue stolen from the museum. Gavin and Carrie walked into the destroyed apartment, bold as can be, assessing the scene.
No cops ran in behind them—instead, all the pieces of her shattered front door shivered then zipped through the air, reforming into a solid, unbroken hunk of wood.
She couldn’t help it, her jaw dropped.
To her left, Glendower went rigid. He turned to face Gavin and Carrie, giving Frey his back, as if the couple were the larger threat.
“I was wondering if you two would reveal yourselves.”
Gavin’s frown went from icy to frigid as he stared down the professor. “What are you?”
“Professor Andrew Glendower. I’ve already met your prettycariad.”
“I know who you are.” Gavin advanced, his long legs moving so gracefully, he hardly seemed to touch the ground. “I asked what—for the druids of old would not have wielded magick as you do.”
Glendower’s smile was all teeth. “This coming from a thief and a murderer. The magick is of Albion, I am of Albion. You,however…” The professor raised his hands, and a wave of magick burst out, blasting Gavin back a step and making his and Carrie’s hair flutter behind them.
“Let them see who you truly are.”
Like wax dripping from a hot candle, the space around Carrie and Gavin melted, revealing—holy shit!
Gavin was somehow even taller and broader, his hair a long fall of silver. His skin had gone a grayish-purple that shone an iridescent pink-green in the light from the kitchen. Long, pointed ears with silver hoops and mercury eyes screamednot human!
And Carrie…Anna’s jaw dropped again.
Carrie waspink.
She was still a blonde bombshell with gold eyes, but now two little horns and pointed ears poked out from her curls, wings hung over her shoulders, and a thin tail whipped behind her.
She’s a gargoyle, too.Her coloring was so different from Frey, but all the characteristics were there.
“Holy shit.”
She hadn’t meant to say it aloud, but the sound drew Carrie’s attention. She looked over Anna and the guard holding her, a frown darkening her face.
“What have you done to Anna? She’s an innocent.”
“You know as well as I do that she’s a heartsong.”
“Yes.” With a flourish, Carrie brandished her hands, now sporting wicked claws. “Which makes herclan.”
“Whatever your plan, it’s over,” said Gavin.
Glendower sneered. “Just like a fae to think Albion and humans are yours to command. You and your kind are a blight on the realms—you lost Faerie, you can’t have Albion.”
