She was trying new things. Getting out of her comfort zone. Anna waslivingand having fun—because she knew, no matter what, that Frey would be there. He would catch her.
That’s all she needed to know.
Frey grew more impatient with every moment his mate was out of his sight. It’d taken several outings before he was comfortable letting her use the facilities without following her. She’d been horrified when he tried the first time and promptly sent him back to their table.
In the months since the attack, Frey had slowly begun to trust that Glendower wasn’t around every corner, just waiting to snatch Anna away. That he was able to go with her in the day helped. As did his training with Gavren.
In their time together, Frey had come to like and admire Gavren. The fae was selective in his words and often stern, but he was also patient with a quick wit. Frey enjoyed their training together, as well as their sparring and work on projects. And it pleased him to see how beloved Carys was by her fae heartsong; if nothing else, Frey could respect a man who treated his woman right.
Although he still couldn’t wield magick like the fae, with Gavren’s guidance, Frey was able to harness it in ways his people never knew. Controlling a glamour had opened up the human world to him, and he was eternally grateful to have not just the day with his Anna but a life as well. Grateful too that he could use his magick to prevent himself from breeding her—at least until she was ready.
He could also extend his senses with his magick, feel for dangers or threats. He’d avoided several potential car accidents thanks to that and even stopped an assault in progress while they were walking in SF one night. The heightened senses allowed him to feel secure that his mate was safe in the facilities.
But taking a long time.
He’d ordered their cake and taken a bite out of it by the time she returned.
Goddesses, he could watch her hips sway in that tight red dress for the rest of his life and die a happy man.
She slid gracefully back into the booth, and Frey lost no time pulling her across the soft fabric into his side.
“Let us eat, then back to the car. I need you alone,” he rumbled into her ear.
A comely blush pinkened her cheeks, and batting her lashes at him, she pulled her phone from her purse and placed it on the table.
“Not too fast, though. I have something for us to try.”
She pressed her breasts into his side, and Frey knew her games well enough to know when his Anna was feeling playful and needy. He lived for times like these. A grin teased his lips, and he looked down to where she tapped at her phone on the table—pausing to admire how the dress molded to her big breasts, of course. If the fabric had been darker and hidden the evidence, he might’ve sucked on them through the dress in the parking lot, but Anna had demurred and told him,“After.”
He’d keep her to that.
Frey tried to pay attention to what she was telling him, he really did, but she was alluring to the point of distraction. He always found his heartsong beautiful, whether she was fresh out of a shower or taking her shoes off for the day or a grumbling lump who didn’t want to get out of bed. Yet there was something to this date night; she always did her hair and wore a special outfit.
The red dress was undoubtedly his favorite.
He enjoyed anything they did together, though. His Anna was always finding things for them to do together, helping introduce him to the modern world. Every day, he was that much more confident in building their life; with the help of his clan, he was learning who he was in this world. And he had faith they’d do the same for the rest of his kin, too.
“Make sense?”
She blinked those big brown eyes at him expectantly. He rumbled and pulled her close to kiss her fragrant hair.
“I touch the screen,” he replied, really all he remembered from her explanation.
“You touch the screen,” she agreed. “Any way you want.” She leaned her head back on his shoulder, gazing up at him with eyes gone sultry. Her breathing had deepened too, bringing his attention back to those pretty breasts.
It was only with passing interest that he tapped on her phone a few times.
Anna nearly jumped out of his arms, and he just caught a faint buzzing from under the table.
Her blush went almost violent, and Frey’s heart nearly stopped.
He traced the pad of one finger in slow circles on the phone. Anna shivered against him, her red lips falling open.
“Oh wow,” she breathed, “that’s intense.”
It all finally came to him. She’d left to put one of her toys in place, a toy he now controlled with touches to the phone.
A wicked grin spread wide across his face. It was like he was petting her cunt, right there in public. His Anna was often a shy thing about open displays of affection, so to know she’d planned this, had meant to drive him wild in this booth by playing with her—
