I blow out a breath, collapsing onto my bed, burying my face in my hands. “Fuck, man.”
Saint sits down next to me. “Talk to me, bro. What’s going through your head?”
How can I tell him for the first time in my life I feelaffectiontoward a chick? Possessiveness? I never thought I’d be able to. Especially to someone like Rebecca.
I have to say none of this, though, because Saint can always read the room we’re in. “It’s alright to care about her. In fact, I’m first in line toshipthe both of you.”
I’m already shaking my head when he claps me on the back. “I know you don’t like to talk about the shit that goes on in your head, but know this, Rebecca cares about you a lot. Anyone can see it. She was the only one sniffing around for you when you left.”
If this guy only knew how much I hated being away from her. Ifsheonly knew.
They can’t know, though. Because the only way to protect Rebecca is to trust nobody.
Unfortunately that includes my best friend.
I’ve done too much bad, got too many skeletons in my closet ready to jump out.
Made too many enemies.
Her God being one of ’em.
My jaw ticks. “Don’t matter, I’m finished with her.”
Saint’s features turn suspect. “Dude.”
“Enough with the fucking third degree, Lavell.” I stand, making my way to the door, needing to get the fuck outta dodge, but first I have to find a way to run damage control.

“What do you want, Cray?”Alexis sighs, admiring her newly painted nails.
Annalie shuts the door behind me, then plays guard of it as if she could actually stop me from leaving. “What part of ‘leave Rebecca to me’ did you not understand?”
She exhales a long sigh. “The bitch hit me first, which she’ll pay for naturally.” She grins, locking eyes with Annalie who looks just as devious.
“She’s mine to fuck with, or did you forget?”
“Fuck with? Orfuck? It’s hard to tell these days.” Her lip curls as she gives me a once over.
I want to bash her fucking face in, but judging from the bruises she’s trying to hide behind concealer, I can tell Rebecca already did it for me.
I’d be proud of her if she wasn’t so fucking stupid.
“What I do is none of your fucking business. All you need to know is that I’m handling her. I’ll destroy her on my terms and no one else’s, got it?”
I sneak closer to her, and Alexis’ eyes hood with arousal, wanting what I usually end up giving her when she’s misbehaved. Except the thought of it now makes my stomach violently ill.
The coy smile she’s throwing my way vanishes in an instant, replaced with a shrug. “It’s too late, I already called Daddy. He promised he’d handle it.”
Motherfucker. This is exactly what I didn’t want.
Her father’s moral compass makes mine look like the Ten Commandments.
“Why the fuck would you do that?” I grind out, my molars turning to shavings. “Because she beat your ass in a fight?”
“See!” Alexis slaps her knee. “That right there is what I’m talking about. Since when do you give a shit how I handle the bitches below me in this school?”
This conversation sounds eerily familiar to the one I just had with Saint, and it takes everything in me to ignore the irony.
