I throw Saint a quick text, letting him know to keep an eye on her since he conveniently got switched to all the classes Hendrix takes. This particular one happens to be with Rebecca too.
When he sends me a thumbs up emoji my shoulders settle just a bit, but won’t completely relax until she’s by my side.
The bell for second period is about to ring, the time between being spent plotting a defense and smoking endless cigarettes on the hood of Raven.
It’s already going off when I reach E-Hall, and students are swarming past me to get to their next class.
Shoving them out of the way, I look for my girl, but she’s nowhere to be found. Not even when I spot Saint towering over most of the kids, eating up the distance between us with a questionable grin on his face.
I’m about to curse his ass out for not keeping watch of Rebecca when a flash of orange has me doing a double take.
I don’t process who it is until those turquoise irises connect with mine, filled with unease.
Rebecca is standing between Saint, Archer, and Hendrix, her long white hair gone and in its place is a shorter, bright ginger color.
I blink a few times, unaware I’ve stopped moving until some guy accidentally bumps into me.
My gaze doesn’t leave Rebecca’s as I shove the asshole to the floor, where my feet are heavy and rooted. The nervous look on her face intensifies when she glances down at the guy, but when her focus returns to me, her addicting sweet smile takes its place, kickstarting my ability to think and move again.
Anger shoots down my spine and confusion twists my features, but it’s the release on the ticker in my chest that comes as the most surprising. Like a draft from a crack in an unbreakable wall…I pick up my pace, Rebecca’s eyes growing wider the closer I get.
Our friends split to the side as I approach, leaving Rebecca to stand alone and at my mercy as I tower over to take her in.
My hands find her hair, examining every inch of the new color and length like dogs do when getting acquainted.
Still so soft, and when I bring some of it to my nose, I find her lavender scent is still intact.
I drag in a deep breath, relief swarming my chest, and pull Rebecca closer with my hands framing her face.
I squeeze my eyes shut. “Why the fuck did you do this, Little Ghost?”
“You know why.” The tremor in her breath has the entire hallways falling silent around us.
My eyes open to find hers closed. “But that shit is behind us.”
“Behind you.” The turquoise irises appear again. “You may be able to live with it, but I can't. Not knowing it hurts you.”
Fucking hell…this girl. If Alexis doesn't kill me, Rebecca’s loyalty will.
“I told you—”
“I know what you told me, Crayton.” She cuts me off, gaze shifting into determination. “But I also know the things youdon’t.”
Of course she does…because Rebecca has been paying just as much attention to me as I’ve been to her since day one.
My fingers slide through her hair as I kiss her forehead. “Thank you.”
The words aren’t enough to express how much this shit means to me, but my affection is still a work in progress.
With a reassuring nod, Rebecca reaches up on her toes to kiss my lips, quick and thoughtful. My hands slide beneath her thighs, lifting her into my arms. Rebecca interlocks her fingers behind my neck as I carry her toward the nearest locker and press her against it.
It reminds me of the threat earlier, but not enough to cool how fucking hot she is with the new hairdo.
“Now go aheadCray Cray, tell me how I look.” My Little Ghost whispers.
My fingers dig into her ass, which she’s been covering with tight shorts to avoid me finger fucking her in English class.
“Like a fucking angel, Rebecca. Nothing will ever change that.”
