“So why did you tell Morrigan you were with one of us?” I had been dying to ask Jax since last night. It was really handy how he could communicate to us telepathically, something gifted at birth. Would be even better if we could talk back to him inside our heads though.
“After centuries, are you finally going to confess your undying love to us?” Justice gushed.
Jax rolled his eyes, his arms firmly crossed against his chest. “No, you fucking idiot. You know I love you like a brother, nothing more. I can already feel the bond at work. Absolutely no one caught my eye but her. I wouldn’t be able to be with anyone but her, and I get that is how this fucking curse works, but I also know that if I see her with anyone other than the two of you dipshits, I’m going to disassemble body parts.”
“What’s the big deal? They grow back anyway.” Justice laughed.
“Would you want to see her with someone else then?” Jax barked, which stopped Justice’s laughter.
“No,” he growled back.
Jax leaned back in his chair. “I didn’t think so, so when she asked who I would be with other than her, I just made it a blanket statement. No one outside the pack.”
“So, she really can talk back with you in your head? Didn’t you have a shield up? You always have a shield up.” It wasn’t surprising that would be one power she inherited from Jax, but to get through his shields was no small feat.
“I think it was because of the bond. When I spoke inside her head, it opened a two-way connection between our minds. I could almost see what she was thinking about.” Jax looked more concerned than his tone implied. His voice never healed completely after what his father did to him.
“Is that going to be a problem for you when you’re training her; having the bond effect your power?” I asked.
“I imagine she will change the way all of our powers work with her. We may get more out of this training than we expected,” Jax said with a frown. He was always worried about power. He didn’t even want to join the pack when we first heard the call and joined under the rings of Hell. He worried because none of the other princes had packed with each other. Our joint power would sway the balance. In the end, there was a ripple of discord, but demons also understood the celestial bonds. Packs and mates were the only things given to us to bring joy and happiness to our existence.
“Well, her time is up,” I announced with a smile. I secretly hoped she was in a playful mood this morning. I got to train with her first, and I really needed to catch up to whatever bond she had already formed with Justice while he was a fucking bird.
I walked casually to her room, having the timing down to the second. I opened her door as my mental timer hit zero. She sat at her small table, a cup of coffee in one hand and a sprinkle covered donut in the other. She gave me a smirk as she dunked the donut into her coffee for a split second and then took a bite of it. A groan escaped her that brought the fire living in my veins to the surface. It had been a long time since I felt this alive.
I strode in wordlessly. She had already been told.
“Give me just a…”
I didn’t let her finish as I took the coffee cup out of her hand, setting it down on the table before scooping her up and throwing her over my shoulder.
“Dammit, not again,” she swore as she began punching my back. “Let me down, you beast. I can walk dammit.”
I laughed as I set her on the floor outside her room. I was also nice enough to shut her door for her.
“I don’t even have my phone,” she huffed, looking back longingly at the door to her room.
“That works, because you will be with everyone on your contacts list today.” I smiled that panty dropping smile that worked every time. I have had girls and guys literally pant and fan themselves when I gave out that smile.
Morrigan looked up at me with a glare. How is my mate the only demon out there unaffected by my charms?
“Well, are you going to lead the way, or are we going to stand here all morning to see how long I take to get back in bed? I’m good either way,” she quipped.
I liked to see her feisty. I would also like to see her in the fighting ring, trying to take me on. All that pent up anger in such a tiny body. I would let her unleash it all on me, and then… One day.
“Follow me, princess,” I breathed as I headed in the training area’s direction. We would practice fire first, so we would need one of the shifting arenas. Hell made the training areas out of Hell magic so they could withstand the force of full-scale magical attacks without imploding.
“Should I call you prince?” she asked as she followed. I wasn’t expecting much of a conversation for our journey.
“No. You can call me Jasper,” I said curtly.
“Is Jasper really your name? It doesn’t sound very demony, or old.” She looked up at me suspiciously.
“Demons have immortal bodies. We can change any and every aspect of them at will. Gender, skin color, hair color, eye color, appendages, wings, tails, you name it, we can change it. Naturally, with that, we change our names as we see fit. I was born Gedeon. That was many lifetimes ago.” I vividly remembered completing my training and receiving the rune to allow my skin to shift. Demon spawns are locked in their born appearance until their body stops forming and all their magical powers are under control. After that, you could change anything about you. Younger demons like to change their form often, while older demons settled in a version they felt most accurately depicted them. Hunts in other realms sparked name changes. Humans change and evolve so quickly. I have seen trend after trend come and go. Jasper had been my latest change, well over a hundred years ago. It felt right, so I’ve kept it.
“So, does that mean you get to choose your dick size?” she asked, which stunned me. I stood immobilized as I looked down at her cute ass face while she smirked at me. She then had the audacity to look down at my crotch and wink.
“Come on, you big grizzly bear,” she laughed, effectively breaking me free to move again. “Get to know me and let me get to know you. Just because we’re mated doesn’t mean I am going to take my clothes off for you. You still have to win me over, and that starts with getting to know each other, ok?”
