CHAPTER18
MORRIGAN
Every morning I trained with Jax and every morning he acted like nothing had happened between us. He stayed in his room, or wherever, and I stayed in mine. Apparently, my little mental shield was strong enough to repel most other demons. It had only been because of the bond that Jax had burst through each time.
So now we were finally getting to the hard stuff. Identifying one specific demon to communicate with. Jasper and Justice came in handy for this. I tried sending specific messages to one of them, without sending it to any of the others. It was a little tricky, but I had made some progress. The further away the demon was, the harder it was to send the message, other than Jax, it seemed.
Last night was the night before my free day. Jax announced during dinner, which I had recently started attending now that I knew what to eat. He was going to the seventh circle to help a friend with a recon assignment. He expected to be gone for at least five or six days. Justice and Jasper eagerly started chatting about how to divide training for the week that Jax went hunting.
Today, however, was Justice’s day. I wasn’t sure what he had planned for our special day, but I opened my eyes to find a crow laying on my lap. I moved slowly to be sure not to wake it while I grabbed my phone and took a couple of quick pictures, sending one on the group chat. It had basically been dead since the first day Jasper used it.
I stretched my hand out to touch the feathers of the crow, not knowing if Justice could sleep inside the mind of an animal or if this was just a wild crow that got inside. If it hurt me, I would heal. The feathers were soft, like a newborn baby blanket.
The crow’s head shot up, startling me a little before giving out a loud caw. Its wings spread wide, and it took off for my window, disappearing through it without so much as a goodbye. I sighed and decided it was time to get up and get ready for my date.
I wore a pink frilly skirt that pooled out around me to my knees. I put on a black skull shirt, to balance it in the same way Justice was balanced. A little bit of a cuddly bear and a little bit dark and twisted. It felt comfy, so I guess that’s what really matters. It wasn’t long before a knock sounded at the door. For once, it didn’t open.
“Come in,” I said, wondering what kind of game he was playing.
Justice walked through the door with a stuffed animal crow in his hands. He tossed it back and forth between his hands nervously. “I was hoping to surprise you,” he said shyly.
“Oh, Justice,” I said, hurrying over to him, taking the stuffed animal from his hands. “I love it, thank you.” It really was cute.
“Are you hungry?” he asked, his voice shifting lower and a bit more seductive.
“Actually, I’m not.” It was the truth. My power was full. Last night I drank from Jasper in the war room, while staring at Jax. Between that and the good night’s sleep, I was good to go.
“Oh,” Justice said, a little more defeated.
“So, what did you have planned for us today? Is this ok?” I twirled a little, showing off the flair of my skirt.
“You look fucking delicious, as always,” Justice said with a smile, seeming to get his mind on straight. It was almost like he was nervous. “In fact, I’m taking you back to my bedroom for the whole day.”
I frowned because, really? I mean, the sex was great. The door, the nest, the shower. But we had one day off. I wanted to do something together, not just lock ourselves behind a door until we fucked our brains out. One day, I absolutely wanted to. Today was just not that day.
“Not like that, feel me, minimal lust coming off me,” Justice assured me, and I will admit his intentions were more playful than a day of debauchery.
“Then lead the way.” I gestured for the door, tossing the stuffed animal on my bed.
Justice took my hand, lacing our fingers together as he led me into the hallway and the few quick steps it took to get to his room. We passed by the war room, and I saw Jasper sitting there with a plate full of food as he scrolled through his phone. He liked to read articles on new ghost sightings in the other realms.
Walking into Justice’s room took my breath away. Memories from the last time I had been in here assaulted me. I had officially moved training back to the library since we had sex. Justice closed the door behind me, and I felt a jolt go through me as I heard the lock click with more acute awareness than ever before. Maybe staying in bed all day and night long wasn’t sounding so bad after all.
Justice chuckled, “you’ll have to wait a bit before we go there, my fox. I would like to take you on a proper date before I fuck you up against this door like you want so badly.” His fingers moved my hair off my neck. He leaned down from behind me to bite my freshly exposed skin. He didn’t break the skin, but just barely.
“Today you are mine, little fox.” He licked over the bruised spot.
I felt my entire body shudder. Fuck, why was I so easily turned on now? I cleared my throat, “what are we doing today?”
“On the bed, flat on your back,” he ordered.
Yup, blowing off the date, I was here for it. I got up on the bed, chucks and all, laying flat on my back like he told me. Justice came over and laid on his back beside me, just the tips of our fingers touched. The bed must have gotten bigger to fit us both.
“I want you to go with me fully into the mind of a crow. I can show you all the rings of Hell,” Justice said, looking over at me.
“Oh,” I hadn’t been expecting that, but with Justice, I was never sure what to expect. “Yeah, that sounds nice.” We wouldn’t be able to talk to each other, not with both of us fully in the mind of our own bird. I wasn’t sure if Jax’s power would work while I was like that, either.
I closed my eyes and quickly found one crow perched up by one of the open windows. I melted into its mind with ease, because Justice and I have practiced many times before. I hadn’t pushed into full control before though; we were always in the library, and it wasn’t safe to leave my body there.
