“Only if I catch you,” he said, with a hint of mischief in his eyes.
I pretended to collapse on top of him on the bed. “Oh no, you’ve caught me. You clever beast,” I said dramatically.
Justice laughed, and I looked up at him with a smile. His fingers combed through my hair, and he looked at me with adoration. He wrapped his arms around my back, making me squeal. He rocked me back and forth, growling like a pretend monster.
He tilted us until my back hit the mattress and he sat above me. I couldn’t stop smiling, and apparently neither could he.
“Yes, I have caught you. I guess you are mine to do with as I please.” His smile turned criminal, and I had no worries about getting a big enough boost for my powers.
CHAPTER19
JAX
The mental onslaught of breathy pleas and flashes of Justice’s bedroom finally stopped. I had been pacing back and forth for the past few hours, waiting for them to finish. She had that mental fucking doorway wide open, and every time she lost control, she sent down brief whispers. I was too low on power to shut her out from my side but hearing her mentally beg every time she wanted him to go faster or harder made it impossible for me to get anything done.
“If you’re quite finished, I would like to remind you to please shut the damn door before you have sex.”
“I thought you were out of range.”She sent back meekly.
“Apparently not.”My dick was as hard as a rock and I wasn’t even sure I wouldn’t send bits to her if I tried to do something about it.
“Are you ok?”she asked.
No, of course I wasn’t fucking ok, “I take it you had a wonderful time with Justice today.”He had taken her out to see the other rings. She had been broadcasting pieces here and there all day. When I went to check in to the hunting lodge, I got a glimpse of the western woods of the ninth circle.
“Well, you heard what you heard. Take it however you will.”She feigned indifference.
“The fox lived.”It had only taken me a few minutes to lose my mind and go looking for her in the woods. Hell sure made travel convenient when it wanted you to be somewhere. I had watched her hide in the tree, setting Justice up. Shadows cloaked me, one of my favorite spells. I watched long after she left the body of the fox. The fox had taken a beating for sure; the wolf had even torn a chunk out of its ear. The fox got away, though.
“I’m relieved to hear I didn’t cause the fox’s death,”she responded, and I could hear the relief as it flooded her tone.
“Did you enjoy seeing the rings of Hell?”I had visited them all years ago, even living in all the areas. I didn’t have any friends to show for it.
“I am a bit confused how I could see so much in so little time,”she replied, full of curiosity, and I couldn’t help but to give her a brief insight.
“Justice uses the crows mostly for surveillance. He made them to see like that.”I would never admit it to him, but his crows had come in handy more than once while out on a hunt.
“I know little about all the magic and spells still,”she replied. I could feel the hint of sadness in her tone. Always so fucking excited to learn things, and I felt myself getting caught in her excitement at it.
“When I return, we can take a break from training, and I can show you some of the different spells.”I would take her to Aggie, one of the few demons I trusted enough to let touch me. She was the one that inked all my runes.
“Will be hard to learn through a mental conversation.”I could tell she was baiting me. I’ve been avoiding her since our kiss. This entire trip had been an elaborate excuse to get away from her and clear my mind.
“Iwill show them to you in person as long as you remember my first rule.”
“Your only actual rule. Yes, I can keep my hands to myself, but the real question is, can you?”
I could hear her challenge in her tone. That was the problem, wasn’t it? No matter how much I insisted on no touching between us, I always ended up with my hands on her. “I am trying.”
“Trying to touch me or trying not to? From where I stand, I can’t touch you or get an opinion of us. You’re the one that said you don’t want to touch me. Maybe that wouldn’t be so hard if that wasn’t a lie.”
“I’m sorry.”I couldn’t stop this nagging voice in my head telling me what a fuckup I was being. It didn’t help that Justice has been insufferable this past week either. At least I’m not hearing his thoughts.
“Sorry for what, exactly?”
“I didn’t mean to make you feel you weren’t good enough,”I said after a while. I was sorry for a lot of things, not that I would tell her that.
“I’m not sure what else you want me to think, Jax. You didn’t even give us a chance to try.”
