Jax remained stiff and poised to strike.
“So why don’t you just do us all a favor and actually claim her as a mate?” Jasper yelled. Whispers erupted around me as the demons turned to each other to agitate the newest gossip they had received. Demons really ate up the drama.
“So, what if she’s a super powerful vybred?” Jasper continued, and that seemed to be enough to make Jax snap. Well, that’s one way to get the word out quickly about what I am. The audience exploded with the news.
I couldn’t care less about all the pictures that were being taken of me as I watched two of the most powerful forces I had ever met as they collided. Jax timed his hits well as he struck hard and fast. His slighter build made it possible for him to evade many of Jasper’s raw, powerful hits.
I heard the bones in Jasper’s ribs crack against another one of Jax’s lightning swift attacks. Jasper’s knees gave way as he sunk to the ground. I felt my breath catch as Jasper coughed up what looked like blood.
Jax circled Jasper, readying himself for the next strike. Jasper looked up, catching my gaze as I looked on in fear. I knew they would be ok; they would heal just like the other demons did. But I hated this. I hated they were hurting each other over me.
Jasper raised one hand to the sky. “I yield,” he bellowed. The crowd grew instantly silent. I noticed several of them were using their phones to film the fight.
Jax backed off, his hands returning to fists at his sides, but he smiled triumphantly.
I felt the anger as it coursed through me.
“Jasper had a lot of power left to heal; he stepped down.” Justice whispered as I sank deeper into my anger.
“Because we just give Jax whatever he wants whenever he wants it,” I snapped back.
“Because he could see you didn’t like it,” Justice said, using a finger under my chin to turn my head his way. They had announced Jax the official winner, and they separated. Walking off the arena in silence.
“If he had listened to me back in the war room, he would have known then I didn’t like it,” I huffed. I was feeling myself calm as I looked into Justice’s eyes. “You’re using your power on me,” I whispered, closing my eyes and leaning into his touch.
“Not at all. Your doorway is still closed,” he said in my ear. I opened my eyes to look deep into Justice’s eyes, as he looked back at me reverently. I couldn’t help but feel thankful to have him in my life.
“Then why does Jasper’s war influence still affect me when the doorway is closed?” I wasn’t sure if it heightened my anger, or if I was just that pissed off right now.
“I think it’s because you share that power with him. It’s your war, your feeling, not his,” Justice explained as he seemed to sort through my mood.
“Why don’t I take you back to my room and I can just steal you for the day. We can call it demonapping if you would like?” Justice gave me a smile as the last of the overwhelming anger subsided.
“I think we should head back to the war room and straighten this out before it gets any worse.”
CHAPTER21
JUSTICE
We made it one literal foot outside the arena when I saw the four black knights standing there silently, as the sea of demons parted around them. They were dressed head to toe in black armor. Their faces covered with angular helmets with thin spikes at the top. Forever faceless, nameless, sentries, bound to only one master: Lucifer himself. Today was a boundary pressing day for Jax so far. Why not give him a firm push?
I looked down at my little fox. She squeezed my hand and looked up at me. Her skin was translucent, something she did on instinct whenever she felt threatened or exhausted. What she didn’t realize was, without a doubt, she was stronger than all four guards put together. Hell, most likely I could take them all on. Nameless and faceless served well for other means as well. None of our parents were black knights, and as far as I know, none of the other princes were. The entire rest of the demon population was less powerful than me.
I tried to send soothing feelings towards her, but her emotions cut off the moment Jax had entered the ring and she hadn’t opened the connection since.
Her eyebrows scrunched together, and she glared at the knights. “They’re here for us.” A simple statement, not a question.
“Yes, pet. We have earned an audience with big old Lucifer himself. How do you feel about that?” I asked, wishing I could just feel her emotions.
“Let’s go meet daddy Satan,” she huffed out, grabbing my hand to pull along as she headed straight towards the knights.
Daddy. Where’s my daddy? He said to hide here.
The knights bowed to her as she approached and then got into formation, two at our front and two behind us. They began marching and Mor walked along with her head held high, as if this were her entourage. Picture perfect royalty. She needed a fucking crown.
The trip did not take long at all, which meant that time was of the essence. I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. We entered the throne room and, as always, Lucifer was draped across the thing sideways with his legs over the armrest. They did the entire room in brilliant reds, golds, and creams. Lucifer added balance with a full black suit, short black hair, and blacked out sclera. In human terms, he could have passed for somewhere in his twenties.
All eyes were on Luci as he lounged like the room wasn’t full of all his sinful children patiently waiting off on the edges of the room. They all had their own sofas and a partner of their choice with them. So yup, Mom and Dad were here, too. I didn’t look at them, but I could feel mom’s eyes on me.
