“Can you open the door, Mor, I want to feel your feelings for this,” I asked softly. I didn’t want her to hide behind one of her masks. I wanted to know how she really felt.
A flood of emotions washed over her, amusement and excitement mixed with anger and nervousness. It didn’t help me in the fucking slightest. I narrowed my eyes at her. “Why are you so pleased by this?”
Jasper and Jax watched her intently. She bit her lip softly, then looked down at her lap for a minute.
“Luci is pretty cool. We had a long mental conversation,” she began, but Jax didn’t let her finish the story.
“How? Your shield was up the whole time,” he interrupted.
“My door to you guys was closed. Luci knocked on my mental shield the moment we walked through the doorway. We had been talking the whole time. The out loud stuff was just for show,” she explained. She smiled at us, and I felt the renewed waves of amusement coming off her.
“So, what the fuck is this all about?” Jasper said, pulling his shirt down and revealing Lucifer’s mark. We all had one now.
“I’m not exactly sure. Luci said something about he’s been waiting for us for so long he almost gave up hope. Something about needing to change the world. I don’t know. He sort of rambles a lot when he gets excited. But he says we need whatever it was he gave us. Oh, and he wants us to know, he’s highly enjoying the drama and not to stop on his account.”
She pointed a finger at Jasper, “and you are never to forfeit an arena match ever again. Apparently, Luci lost a lot of money betting on you today.”
I burst out laughing and Mor joined in, while Jasper and Jax sat rigidly in their chairs. We still had a lot of unfinished business to attend to, on top of all the Lucifer shit.
“Well, do the two of you have anything to say for yourselves about the fucking circus show you put on display because I have decided neither of you gets to have me for today. Since neither of you listened to me, I’ve decided to spend the day with myself. After this is sorted, I am going to do whatever the fuck I want, and whoever wants to join me may come along.”
Jax opened and closed his mouth, but no words came out. Disappointed. Confused. He did not know why she wasn’t happily spending the day with him.
“I won the arena fight.” Jax looked Mor in the eyes, trying to explain to her rules she would never follow.
“I am not a prize to be won or traded or placed inside a glass box, Jax,” Mor said softly back. “I have a say in my life.” Her gaze drifted across Jasper and then me. She gave me a sweet smile. “Does anyone else have anything they want to say, or can I get on with enjoying my one free day?”
I shook my head no, and Jasper did the same. Jax just stared at Mor, entirely unsure what to do.
“I want,” she started, and what followed was the night that changed my life.
CHAPTER22
MORRIGAN
“Iwant to go out and have some fun with all of you. Since this whole thing started, there has been drama on top of more drama, and they centered a lot on power.” I looked Jax deadass in the eyes.
I saw his jaw tense.
I continued on, “Every demon out there knows about us now. There’s no putting that toothpaste back in the tube. We also have this.” Pointing to the tattoo on my chest. “This means fuck off to any demons out there that want to try anything with us. We have this position because we are that fucking powerful. Do you really think we can’t just go wherever the fuck we want and not be able to handle our shit?” Lucifer had done a pretty good job of hyping me up during our mental conversation.
“You are not yet strong enough to take anyone on,” Jax was quick to add. Same old song and dance with him.
“No, that’s why I need you guys with me. Not constantly all this separate trainings and one-on-one date days. If you’re in, I want you in all the time. Was this really how the pack was before I came along?” I had never really thought about their lives before meeting me, other than the typical demon floating through time on the edge of passions blade.
“We spent most days together, running through cases and preparing for hunts. In the evenings, we would go our separate ways for entertainment. I liked video games and hanging out with my friends. The ones you were supposed to meet,” Jasper said, muttering.
“I usually went to the clubs, drank some poison, maybe took someone back to the dungeon. There are a few specialty clubs I have been to that I think you will love,” Justice purred. We would definitely circle back to these specialty clubs. I could only imagine the trouble we could get into at one of those.
I looked over at Jax as he stood there, silently. We were having a bonding experience, so he needed to get with the bonding if he wanted to stay.
“I liked to read books some days, and I used to go out with my friend Sheila,” I said. My life had barely even begun compared to all these guys. I paused and wondered if Jax would finally decide to share.
“I would watch demons from the shadows,” Jax said lowly.
“What does that mean?” I asked in confusion.
“I would use a spell to conceal myself in the shadows and then go around places just to watch other demons.” Jax said, which honestly helped to clarify. Not being able to be touched and voyeurism makes sense.
