“Then how do you know it really will keep my mate bond closed?” Maybe I should have kept that question to myself and just tried it out, but I imagine he already thought of that.
“We have mates here too, love. This hides that bond, that much we know works.” Jace kept his hold on my collar taut, and I had to strain to look up at him.
A vampire bond, yes, but that didn’t for sure mean demon bond. That part I could happily keep to myself. “How do vampire mate bonds work?”
“Catching feelings, love?” His smile was light, but the look in his eyes was all predator.
“Hardly. I just don’t know much about my vampire side, Three.” I smirked.
He narrowed his gaze. “Now that you have this,” he yanked on my neck harshly.
I smacked my palms against his hard chest, resisting slightly.
He leaned down to whisper into my ear, “I can take you anywhere I want, and no one will find you. Now drink from me so you can get off your knees. I have shit to do today.”
My mouth watered and my fangs ached. I didn’t need to be told twice, and I twisted and sunk my teeth into his flesh with a satisfied groan. I was too hungry, too starved to be neat. I felt the pressure against my neck lesson as he removed his hold on me and that was all it took for me to snap and climb right into his lap. I bit him ravenously, needing more and more blood.
His arms encircled me, resting on my lower back. The powerful taste of blood filled my mouth and overwhelmed my senses. I was so thirsty. So hungry. I moved my hips, just needing to move. I just needed something.
“That’s enough for now, love,” he pushed me away by my shoulders. It wasn’t enough. Not even close.
I bared my teeth at him and gave out a hiss. His wound didn’t heal on its own like demons did. Blood was bubbling up from the gaping wound I left in his neck. He hadn’t even flinched. Grabbing me by the collar with one hand, he put three fingers up in front of my mouth.
“Three you say. Open your mouth, love.” His eyes flashed that white color again.
When I refused, he pushed his fingers into my mouth and down my throat, making me choke. He pulled his hand free and smeared my spit all over his neck. The wound immediately started patching itself up.
“When I tell you to open your mouth, you will either suck or choke. The choice is yours.” His eyes met mine in a kind of challenge. Guess he forgot bite. At least I knew what to expect next time.
“Time to go. We have a lot to do today,” he said cheerily and stood. In his hand he held a golden rope, which, of course, ended at the loop around my neck.
When the fuck did he even put that on me? I inspected the end tied to me, a solid ring with no visible breakaway point. Asshole.
“Don’t make me use commands,” he said, rolling his eyes at me.
Give me one minute with my powers and he will be ash.
“You can’t kill me,” he said with a smile, flicking his wrist, which yanked on my collar. “I’m your sire. You kill me, you kill every vampire I have ever made, including yourself.”
I rose to stand, glaring at him. “Do you have any idea what it actually takes to kill a demon? I’m pretty sure I could kill you and it would barely even phase me.”
“Care to put that assumption to the test, love?” He smiled.
I slapped him across the cheek. “Stop calling me love,” I said simply.
“Come along now.” He rubbed at his cheek lightly. A red mark was blossoming, and I felt proud I had at least managed that. He pulled at my collar, forcing me to take a step forward.
“You’ll learn,” he muttered before turning and heading for the door.
“Aren’t you at least going to give me some new clothes?” I huffed.
There was no point in trying to resist. I’m certain he would drag me by the neck if he needed to. Stepping out of the secondary chamber, I felt a rush as my demon powers were returned to me like someone just dumped a bucket of warm water over my head. I could feel my body healing itself, washing away the knots in my back and the ache in my veins. I stretched, working out all the stiffness. I took in a deep breath, missing Hell.
“So that’s how you went so long without turning completely,” Jace said, looking at me with interest in his eyes.
I could feel my thoughts sharpening and I could push down the feeling of thirst which still raged inside me. I knew the demon power I had was limited, so I would try to hold off using any until I had a better idea of how to escape. Controlling the healing power seemed impossible, but at least it hadn’t taken away a ton of power yet. I still tried the mental link between me and my mates and found it just as cold and empty as it did when I was in that room.
“Not going to use your demon powers on me immediately?” Jace raised an eyebrow.
