I wrapped my hand around his again and smiled curtly. “Lead me to it, Your Highness.”
The look he gave me told me I caught him off guard.
“Don’t call me that.” His tone was what I could only describe as subdued horror. Guess that one really hurt him somehow.
“Lead the way, Jace.” I amended. At least he listened when I told him not to call me “love” anymore. Darling was ok. I took it with heavy sarcasm.
He took me to a bedroom. I walked in hesitantly. There was an elegant bed fully made with black and red bedding. There was even a canopy with curtains attached to the poster walls. The entire frame seemed hand carved.
“You requested a bed and a blanket. You have both.” Jace said. He had remained at the doorway while I had ventured in to get a better look. He stepped in as I turned to him. Shutting the door behind him and securing it with a lock.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “I’m not sleeping with you; I have demon mates, remember.”
“I think your little display earlier while drinking my blood states otherwise, darling.” He gave me a cruel smile.
“I was half starved. Just trying to see if I could make you bleed faster.” Not entirely a lie. I still hadn’t unpacked those events for the day. I still had to figure out if my feelings towards him were because of the sire bond or the mate bond. Without having actively felt him use his sire commands on me, I didn’t know if it felt different. I didn’t even want to think about the mate thing right now, because I wasn’t sure what he brought to my love life that I didn’t already have.
“There’s a dress on the bed. I want you to put it on.” He crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, smiling. He certainly wore the same clothes as the boys, black button ups and slacks. Honestly, it was fucking weird. Like, none of you are going to business meetings. Everyone else is dressing normally. Well, I guess Justice had his own thing going, and I know I’ve seen Jasper in a lot more t-shirts and jeans lately. Honestly, it was only Jax that I hadn’t seen in anything else.
“Where’s the shower?” I didn’t see any other doors or rooms. I didn’t even have a fucking window.
“No shower, no bathroom. Put the dress on Morrigan.” Oh, the way he said my name sent my whole body on fire.
Literally, fire burst out to cover my skin. It burned off all my clothes, but it shielded my body from view. Grabbing the dress quickly, I made sure the fire didn’t burn the material. I wasn’t expecting to burst into flames like this, and I didn’t enjoy using the power I was. I also knew not to waste the opportunity. Neither the collar nor the lead burned away. Dammit.
Once I covered myself, I called the fire back and finished fixing up my dress. I will say I felt a little cleaner, like the fire had burned all the dirt away.
Jace clapped. “Impressive display. But I must wonder, darling, why you would use so much power and not even try to escape?”
I held my chin up high. “I’m more powerful than you could imagine. That was nothing.”
“Or you cannot control your powers yet, which means soon enough, you’ll accidentally run out of power, anyway.” He raised his eyebrows at me.
“I thought you needed me powerful to kill this king.” What use would I be of him as just a normal vampire?
“I have ways of giving you a demon power boost when the time is right,” he said, coming to stand before me.
I had gotten the dress mostly on. It was a simple black dress with a halter neckline that conveniently tied around my neck. The dress stopped about mid-thigh. My boobs needed centered, but that was kind of weird to do with a psycho vampire in front of you. Fuck it, they looked stupid as is. I reached in and adjusted myself, feeling much more comfortable with it.
He was staring at my chest. Of course, he was.
“What’s that?” He pointed.
I looked down in confusion before realizing my mark from Lucifer was on display. I wasn’t sure what the best play was here, so I evaded.
“That, is none of your business.”
“Shoes are by the bed, and there is a brush on the nightstand. You have five minutes.” He said flatly.
I scurried to find the shoes and slip them on my feet. They were beautiful neck-breaking high heels with thin rope line straps that laced up your leg. Fuck, that would take forever. I’ll go barefoot.
I grabbed for the brush, making quick work of the tangles that had accumulated over the past few days.
“Opting for no shoes this evening, darling?” He said from directly in front of me. I thought I moved fast as a vampire; it was nothing compared to him.
“Not enough time for all that,” I said, putting the brush down now that I was mildly satisfied with my hair. I really needed a shower, though.
“Sit on the bed,” he commanded.
