“Realm portal. Justice spotted movement. Stay with the humans for now.”I instructed Jasper. Silence followed, as always. Mor had been the only one able to talk back. Without the sound of her voice in my mind, I feel as though I have tumbled back down into a lonely abyss. She brought color into my otherwise dull life, and without her, the light was gone, and the shadows appeared darker.
Justice sprang into action, running toward the portal. I followed along behind him, sticking to the shadows. He was always more of a berserker, anyway.
I caught up enough to see Justice standing with daggers in his hand, as three fae stood wide eyed and trembling with fear. Fucking fae, always kidnapping humans. It should have been obvious. Mid-realm was the first place I checked for her, because of the vampires.
I stormed right into the castle and demanded an audience with whoever the fuck was in charge. That whole kingdom is a joke, anyway. They barely control a solitary mountain after the Terror King. Rumors said Jace was just as bloodthirsty as his father. I talked to Sebastian that day. He even showed me their prison cells. He seemed too scared to lie, and I still had other realms to search.
I should have barged in on King Ailill. He is usually pleasant to deal with, but the fae do like their pets.
“Where have you been taking the humans?” Justice purred out. He was so calm, and that was terrifying the fae even more.
“We have orders from the King to collect the humans with vampire blood in their system.” One of them slowly managed.
“I want to know where the humans are now.” Jasper said, emerging from the tree line with fire in each hand.
“I thought I told you to stay with the humans,”I looked at him while raising an eyebrow.
“Thought you heard me tell you, hell no,” Jasper said with a smile.
I rolled my eyes. Spelled ropes lunged from the pack, ensnaring each of the fae where they stood. I removed the shadow spell and stepped into view.
“You will take us to the humans that you have.” I directed my mental voice into their minds. I was close enough to get into their heads, plus their shields were poor. Fae were so weak compared to demons. But then again, they were still mortal souls.
The ropes bound their hands, and I bound each of them to the others. I held the end like a leash.
“Start walking,” Jasper growled.
It seemed to do the trick since they all jumped and then scurried toward the portal. They would need to use powdered myrinth to open it. Demons just used power.
“I’ll open it,” I said as soon as they started digging for their powder stash. “Which realm?”
“Mid-realm,” one of them squeaked out.
Opening the portal was as easy as breathing. I felt like I was getting closer to her. Her soul was reaching out to me. We emerged close to the fae kingdom. It looked like they planned on walking. Fuck that.
“Pick a hostage, boys. We’re going for a run.” I barked out, rearranging the knots so they were bundled individually. Each one separate from the other.
I scooped up the nearest one, using my power. Male soldiers I figured by the look of the leather armor he wore. Really, they could at least try to dress a little more mortal when realm hopping.
“Where we off to?” I said, swinging him in the air like he weighed nothing at all.
“Castle,” he grunted out, clearly not liking the way he was being carried.
“More specific,” I growled out.
“Basement. That’s where they’re taken,” he grunted out.
“If I find my mate, chained up in someone else’s dungeon…” Justice trailed off as he got lost in some world in his head.
“Did he say mate?” The fae I held grumbled.
“Our mate,” I growled back. “Let’s go get her boys.”
We took off at full speed toward the castle. Even with our full load, it only took a few minutes until we were standing at the gate. They wove spells all throughout the stone. I could break through every one of them. They stationed guards on either side, their eyes widening as they saw us approaching, each with a captured fae.
“Tell your king we need to have a word,” Jasper growled out.
Both guards abandoned their posts simultaneously as they scurried to deliver our message. Other guards rushed from inside, opening the gate wide for us as they deactivated the spells to allow our passage. Fae knew better than to fuck with demons.
