Ileft as soon as Morrigan left with the demons. I hadn’t taught her how to shield her soul yet, and good thing, it seems. My brother has stolen my throne and sold me to the demons to broker a deal with Ailill. But the little vampire seemed to want me in her harem, and the demons didn’t seem to mind. Frankly, Sebastian could have the throne. I just had one last bone to pick before I left the realm.
I knew Morrigan wasn’t leaving the realm yet, but I also didn’t need her trying to come and stop me out of some sense of responsibility. This was my fight, and the demons would stay with their mate as I locked her lead to only the vampire realm. It would take me the rest of the night that was left to reach the fae castle. I wouldn’t have time to wait for the next nightfall for my attack.
The tip off from Morrigan was helpful, and I used it as fuel to push my legs faster than they wanted to go. The sooner I got there, the better chance I had at catching him off guard. I hadn’t even had time to grab any weapons before taking off. This whole thing was a shit show. One way or the other, I guess my life was about to change.
I made good time. I floated as shadow into the archway across where Ailill was sleeping soundly. The sun still hadn’t crept into the horizon. I had one shot at this. I lunged, fangs bared, as Ailill turned with a smirk on his face. He whipped to the side and stuck a needle in me.
I looked in panic as the vial of green swirling liquid emptied into my veins. A warm numbing sensation blossomed out from where the poison entered me. I staggered backwards, my power flickering out as I slumped down the wall.
“We’re even now,” the king huffed as two of Morrigan’s demons stepped into the room with a smile.
“She’s not happy you made her stay with the vampires.” One of them bent down in front of me so I could see him. White hair, green eyes.
“You’re caught now. Demon pet or demonling mate, that’s your choice. Hell owns your soul either way now.” The other demon said with a sinister smile. Dark hair, dark eyes.
Where was the huge one with the tail?
The demon did something and then I felt the rush of pain in my chest. My head worked slowly as I tried to see what they were doing to me.
“What the hell?” I could hear my words slurring. I don’t think I could hold off from oblivion for much longer.
“We are bound now, vampire,” I heard the words whispered to me as my vision failed and the long dark slumber comforted me like a welcoming embrace.
Waking up was like emerging from a soak in the pool. But here the air was warm. Opening my eyes, it was incredibly dark, but I could make out the shapes of things just fine. I was in a room, a mostly bare room. But it was nice. I saw there was a door just before commotion broke out from the other side.
“I don’t care if he’s still out, I want to see him.” I recognized Mor’s voice.
There were some low grumblings I couldn’t quite catch.
“I will stab you Jax. Get out of my way.” I heard her demand.
Footsteps pounded away before the door opened. She turned on the lights once she got in. They were just a bunch of glowing rocks on the walls. Fucking weird.
“Oh! Sorry, they said you weren’t awake yet. Would you like me to come back in a little while? Is there anything I can get for you?” she asked, and it confused me. She was never nice like that.
“What’s going on?” I muttered, looking around the room.
“That is how you properly treat a stranger in your kingdom,” she quipped, coming to sit down at the small table I had. It was set for two, with large golden challises sitting at each end.
“I’m in Hell?” I went to sit up and noticed I was only wearing a pair of boxers. I quickly pooled the comforter around my waist.
Mor rolled her eyes. “Justice. Did you undress him?” she yelled.
I saw the white-haired one poke his head in my doorway. “Surprise!” Then he ran off laughing.
“Sorry about them. You’ll learn them all. I’m guessing you have questions.” She turned back to me and smiled sweetly. “Do you want some blood?” The challis was in her hand, extended toward me.
“Not really. I heard it all in the woods. I took one last stab at Ailill while I could.” The mate thing between us was easier to imagine, now that I didn’t have a throne to go back to. I never could have imagined the sense of relief I felt now that the weight of the crown was lifted from my shoulders. Of course, I was shackled to demons for all eternity. Right now, that didn’t sound so bad, and if I ever happened to get a chance to kill Ailill, I would. Alive and with my mate sounded like heaven though.
“You’re taking this really well,” the white-haired one said, coming back into the room with something that looked like a pair of bolt cutters made from scratch in the creepy neighbor’s garage.
“What the fuck, mate?” I held my hands out in front of me. I’d run in nothing more than my boxers.
“I’m not your mate.” He said in confusion.
I rolled my eyes. “Not that kind of mate. Social, friendly mate.”
“Vampires use mate as slang, even though they have actual mates?” The demon looked entirely bewildered.
