“I’m Jasper,” the big one to Mor’s right waved his hand, like he wasn’t mad at me a few minutes earlier.
I leaned over to whisper in her ear. I paused to inhale her delicious scent and closed my eyes to savor the flavor. I was full after the blood from my room, but I would never stop wanting her. The damn collar was off, holy fuck was this mate bond pull intense. I didn’t really have a reason to fight it, but it took me a minute to realize my emotions were being manipulated.
Manipulated by fate, it seemed.
“Is it always like this?” I could see her blood pulsing blue beneath her creamy white skin. She had taken on a prominent vampire hue since she fully turned. Her lips seemed a deeper shade of crimson against her pale complexion. Her golden hair just seemed a bit off from everything else. It hung loosely over her far shoulder, like she had bared her neck to me on purpose.
She turned and gave me a seductive smile. “You get a bit used to their unique buttons. But this is all new and exciting for them. I imagine it will calm down here soon.”
“You don’t get to touch her until you’re pack.” Jax’s voice cut across the room as I felt the burning hot pain sear into my chest.
“Jax,” Mor yelled as I sat up straight.
“We agreed no one outside the pack, Mor.” Jax leveled Mor with a glare, and she stopped, her mouth wide open.
“Jax. He’s my mate.” She intoned it like she expected he hadn’t really understood that part yet.
“It’s only limited to sexual touches. But it will encourage him to want to be part of the pack. A hybrid body will be much stronger and feed off hell power and blood. You need him to work well with us, for all of our sakes.” His voice never changed during the entire speech, as if he had sat and rehearsed it to himself while he waited for her to return. He had already worked through every counterpart. Fuck me.
“That’s fair, for now.” She glared at him like she also realized how he trapped her as well.
“That’s fine, Jax. I made her come without touching her. And I can do it again. And again. For as many times as I want, really. I think that still puts you as last, even if I can’t get my cock in her first. I had that before you.” I stretched back in my chair comfortably. “But hell, yeah, I want the demon upgrade. So, sign me up.”
I saw Jax’s jaw clench, and it made me smile wider. Someone didn’t like not being the only big boss in the room anymore.
Ringing sounded from pockets all around the table, and grumbles sounded from all the demons. They held phones in their hands. Mid-realm wasn’t made for things like that because of all the magic in the air. We only had a few that worked in the realm, so they were given to the most powerful. There was so much fucking power in Hell, I did not know how they were doing it.
“Lucifer summons us immediately.”
Mor had changed out of the ruined blue dress and was wearing a pair of fuzzy pajama pants with vampire teeth all over them and a black tank top hanging loosely over her shoulders. She needed to change to go see Lucifer.
Everyone else stood at once, so I followed along, confused.
We walked along in silence while Mor and Justice held hands, swinging them with each step. Jax and Jasper took the lead, leaving me to follow along behind. We approached a doorway as tall as the ceiling, arched with double doors guarded by two hulking large black armored demons. Guess when Lucifer said immediately, that meant now.
The room was blindingly white with splashes of red. Marble and gold covering every inch with large rocks casting bright white light. You couldn’t miss the stark contrast of Lucifer dressed in all black, slouched on his throne. There he was. The ruler of Hell.
“Treasure. How good to see you have returned. Oh, and you found him. I knew you would.” Lucifer said, getting up and casually descending the steps.
The demons went and sat on a large pillow blanket type thing on the floor at the steps of the throne. Might as well follow them. Morrigan sat down next to me as soon as I took my place.
Lucifer was lounging against a pillar about halfway down. He seemed to study us. As in, all of us. He smiled, and I hoped that meant something good. No one has dared to speak other than Lucifer. And there were at least fifty other people in this room, lounging on sofas on the edges like they were watching a show.
“I figured it would be a vampire. But you never quite know with the way they word things. What’s his name?” Lucifer looked at us expectantly.
After a pause, I figured it was my turn to talk. “I’m Jace.”
“Welcome, Jace.” Lucifer called out, clapping his hands manically.
All demons were insane. Got it.
“Go on your way now. Don’t forget to enter the hunt I just posted in honor of your new little vampire. And solving your first case, of course. Mandatory for all the heirs, I’m afraid. No time to waste.” Lucifer said, turning his back and walking back up the steps. Why did he even bother coming halfway down?
The others got up just as silently as they arrived. There was a lot of silence at this meeting. It was super weird. No one breathed a word until we were back in the war room.
Justice was the first one to break the silence, lounging back in his chair. “So, what did Luci really have to say?”
Everyone turned to look at Mor expectantly. I looked at her in bewilderment. Who was she?
