I swallow down the food and sip some wine. “Sorry, I don’t mean to…”
“Don’t mean to what? Arouse me?” he finishes my sentence for me. “Do you think it’s possible not to imagine pushing your dress down your shoulder so I can look at your gorgeous tits?”
My mouth falls. Oh, Lord! Did he just say that? The clench between my thighs followed by a warm flush of juice alarms me. Damn it. I’m not wearing panties. Shit. I can’t stand up now.
Just then, Devin leans toward me across the small table and bends lower, looking as if to kiss me. I lean back into my seat, only to find out it isn’t his motive at all. The action is taking place under the table. His hand is on my knee, slipping under my dress, and making its way up. Oh God. I ought to tell him to stop, but the bright blue beams that are locked onto my eyes render me boneless. I spread my legs instead.
“Fuck!” Devin takes a sharp breath. “No panties, just as I thought.”
His longer finger glides along my slit and finds my pussy. Holy shit. This is so wrong.
“I thought we were err…going to taste the wines…” I manage to say.
He doesn’t answer at once, but thrust into me for an inch and swirls along my walls. And then he pulls out his finger and pushes it into his mouth. He sucks it, swallows, and smiles. “I am. It’s the best wine I’ve ever tasted!”
Holy mackerel! Am I dreaming? Is this one of the Devin Gamble fantasies I created during my desperate, lonely nights?
I shove another piece of chicken into my mouth. Needless to say, I have no idea how it tastes.
Chapter 10
Devin
“So, did you enjoy the evening?” I ask Lexi on our way back.
“Yes, thank you,” she says. “The food is wonderful. And I did get some inspirations.”
“Good to know,” I say. “You can have all the wines I bought just in case.”
“Thank you!” she exclaims. “But it won’t be necessary. We should share them at the least.”
“That’ll work too,” I say, liking the idea.
After a moment’s silence, I change the topic. “When was the last time you went out with a guy?”
She pauses to think. “Three years ago.”
“Really?” I’m not that pleased with the answer. “You dated after you…err your son was born?”
She frowns at my question. “Yes.”
“Who was it?” I can’t help the jealousy flaring in my gut. I must sound agitated because Lexi’s mouth falls.
“He’s err… a guy who worked here briefly,” she says hesitantly, as if not wanting to share the information with me. “But it didn’t work. So we just went out once, and that was all.”
I let out a sigh of relief.Thank God. “That was it? What about before that? Have you dated anyone else?”
“Yeah. Jimmy’s dad,” she says in a small voice.
I know it must be a sensitive subject to her, but I want to know more. “Jimmy’s dad never came back to see you?”
“How did you know he left here?”
“Well, I…” I stutter. “I know you’re a single mom. It says in your file.”
It doesn’t explain how I know Jackson left town, but thankfully she doesn’t seem to suspect. I don’t want her to think I’m a creep…although I sort of am. I don’t want her to know I’ve been stalking her online for two years.
“No,” she says. “He never even comes home to see his own parents. My mom knows his family, but she isn’t in contact with them. A year after he took off, Mom found out from mutual friends that Jackson became an actor. He isn’t famous but is in quite a few shows and movies since then.”
