MICHAEL
I was supposed to be back in Denver a week ago, but I pushed out my return as long as I could. My father had sent me here in his place to look over his new company and make sure everything was on the up and up. I couldn’t have imagined I’d find the love of my life.
“I’ll be back in ten days,” I tell Fiona, and giving her a kiss on her forehead.
We are sitting at the drop off area in front of the airport. By staying later, I gave up the luxury of driving back with Denny, so I’m leaving my SUV and Denny with Fiona until I get back. I know that they will each be in good hands until I get back.
“I’m not sure what I do without you for that long?”
I chuckle and glance down at the tablet sticking out of her bag. “Oh, I think you will find some ways to pass the time.”
“Maybe this next book we are reading will give me some ideas for new moves to try out.”
“I love being your sexual guinea pig.”
She pulls face and laughs. “Out of context that would be a really weird thing to overhear.”
“Agreed.” A deep voice says behind us through the open SUV window.
Both Michael and I jump, while Denny in the back seat start barking.
“Shhh,” I reach back and scratch behind his ears. “It’s okay.”
“I’m going to need you folks to move along. We can’t have people parking here.” The airport officer says.
“Sorry, sir. I’m just saying goodbye to my girl.”
My heart flutters whenever I hear Michael call me that.
The officer looks from Michael to me and then back at Michael. “Okay, you have one more minute or I’ll be back.”
“Yes, sir.”
Michael turns around and crushes his lips against mine. Not to be outdone, Denny tries to push his wet nose between us.
“Don’t forget about me.” I smile, trying to hide my sadness.
“I’m the one who should be worried. Why do you think I’m leaving Denny with you? He won’t let anyone near you.”
I chuckle. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” He rests his head against my forehead.
A deep voice clears behind us.
“I got to go. Be back in ten days. And we can start planning our animal rescue.”
That’s the main reason for Michael going back. He’s going to talk to his father about finding his replacement at the company, so we can start planning our futures together. We’ve already started looking for a plot of land outside the city.
I know everything is happen so fast, but when it’s right, why fight it?

“You’re late again,” Michelle teases when I get to the following Nice Girls’ Naughty Book Club meeting.
“I told you had to drop off Michael at the airport today,” I say.
