“Yep,” he nods. “I think it’s called a nerd-aissance.”
“Wow,” I try to hold back laughter building up in my throat. “That definitely makes it sound cooler.”
He laughs and holds out his hand to me. “I’m Ben.”
“Lily.” I shake his hand.
“I’m the owner of this establishment and former “King of the Nerds” until your presence rocketed your pals into the stratosphere of most popular guys at this party.”
“Oh, you mean my pals that begged me to dress up in this short, uncomfortable costume, only to ditch me for the first group of elves they found.”
I point across the room and see the guys cozying up with a group of ladies dressed in green.
“Those are nymphs.”
“What’s the difference?”
“It’s not important.”
I click my punch cup with his. “Good answer.”
Ben and I continue to chat into the evening. He offers to show me the first issue of The Scarlet Inferno in his office, and I think we are finally getting somewhere. That is until we go to his office, and he doesn't kiss me but pulls out the actual comic in a plastic sleeve.
"Weirdly, I've never heard of her until now," I say, flipping it over in my hands and glancing at the back.
"I never understood how female superheroes were supposed to fight bad guys in skin-tight or short outfits like this. One high kick, and suddenly she's putting on a show for the whole world to see."
“She flies, shoots fire out of her eyes, and you are worried about her outfit?” Ben asks.
"Well, seeing as I'm currently dressed in her outfit, it's high up on my priorities to find out the motivation." I hold out one leg to show him just how short my skirt is.
Ben's gaze drifts down my body, and I can see his eyes darken with lust. It wasn’t my intention to lead the conversation in that direction when I made the comment, but I certainly don’t mind where it’s heading.
It's like a switch is flipped, and we are like two magnets that snap together. His strong arms wrap around my waist and pull me against him. The hard press of his cock is unmistakable as it pushes against my lower belly. Our lips meet, and a moan escapes his lips when I brush my tongue against the seam of his lips to deepen the kiss. His hands start to drift from my waist over the curve of my ass.
But suddenly, there's a knock at the door, and we break apart quickly before the door opens. I turn my back towards the door and try to readjust my costume.
"Hey boss, people are starting to get antsy out here for the costume contest.”
“I’ll be out in a second,” Ben says.
I don’t turn around until I hear the soft click of the door shutting.
“That was close,” I chuckle.
He nods. “Yeah, that was something else.”
"We better head out," I say and start to walk towards the door, but Ben grabs my hand.
“Lily, would you,” he starts to say and runs his hands down the side of his pants. “Would you be interested in going out to dinner with me tomorrow night?”
I don’t quite understand the uncertainty in his question. Did I not just have my tongue in his mouth as he grabbed my ass?
“I’d love to go out with you.”
The smile that spreads across his face makes the butterflies in my stomach start to flutter. So many guys wear masks to hide what they are really thinking, but Ben wear's his heart on his sleeve, and I like that openness about him. He’s not like every other guy I’ve dated before. But a part of me feels like there is something he’s not telling me.
