“You’ll find what you love soon enough.”

“You don’t think it’s too late for me?” she asks.

“It’s only too late when you are dead.”

She smiles, and I get lost in the twinkle of her eyes.

“I wonder if we would have crossed paths if a group of sweet comic book fans hadn’t asked me to join their costume contest team?”

I reach across the table and link her fingers with mine. “I’d like to think so.”

“Me too.”

We finish eating and start walking up and down the pier. We chat more as we play some games, and I win her a small stuffed pig with gold wings. I tell her about my time in art school and how I had plans to write my own graphic novel.

“You’re still going to make it happen,” Lily says with such certainty that I feel the flicker of the creative ember inside me spark to life.

I'm not even sure she realizes how her confidence in what I can do makes me feel.

“Do you want to go on the Ferris Wheel?” she asks.

I nod, and we head over and get in line. The seats are buckets that can fit up to four people, but I tip the guy working the line so that we can be by ourselves.

We get in our bucket, and the guy clicks the door shut, checking that it's locked. We sit down on the side of the bench that overlooks the water. It's too dark to see anything other than the lights from the city behind us reflecting off the water.

Lily sits close to me, her hand resting high on my thigh. My dick instantly reacts to her touch and the mix of the salty air and lilac on her skin.

“I’ve been waiting all night to be alone with you,” she says quietly.

The sounds from the people and the rides below on the pier are loud enough that I almost miss what she says.

I look down at her as she looks up at me and our lips press against each other, gently at first. But soon, the frenzy building in both of us comes out, and I can't seem to get close enough to her. Lily shifts, and the bucket sways as she throws one leg over my lap and straddles my thighs.

"What are you doing?" I ask an uneasy feeling fighting the need to pull her closer to me.

“I think it’s pretty obvious,” she moans in my ear as she thrusts her hips forward against my cock.

“I don’t think this is a good idea.”

She pulls back, and I see a flash of hurt in her expression. “What do you mean?”

“I don’t want to do this here. I’ve never—”

Lily jumps off me and moves to another part of the bench. “Are you saying you think I do this with every guy I go out with?”

"No," I hold up my hands. "I didn't mean that. It's just,"

The Ferris wheel starts to move again, and Lily yells at the operator that she wants off the ride. We do one more rotation before they stop it so that we can get off. I'm trying to think of the best way to explain, but this is not a conversation I want to have in public.

Lily doesn't wait for me, and I lose her for a few minutes in the crowd. I know she is heading in the direction of the parking lot, so I hope that I can catch up to her out of the park. But when I get to the gate, I'm just in time to see her get into the back seat of a car and ride off.

I don’t know how this night went from being the best date I’ve ever been on to getting left behind in the parking lot.
