Chapter 5
MARIE
The car pulls to a stop in front of my apartment building, and I lift my head off Will's shoulder. I must have dozed off. We are both so tired as we get out and slowly trudge up the stairs. Will stops just behind me and waits for me to unlock the door.
The lock clicks open, and I step inside, but he doesn't follow me.
“You aren’t coming in?” I ask, unable to hide the disappointment in my voice.
“I should let you get some sleep.”
“You are nearly dead on your feet. Come inside.” I reach for his hand and pull him in.
He doesn't put up a fight, and I hope it has more to do with him wanting to be here than being too tired to stop me. I pull him past the living room and the small sofa’s he’d never be comfortable in. I can hear the slight intake of his breath when he realizes where I’m leading him.
"It's big enough for the both of us to get some rest," I say, stopping just inside the doorway to my room. "And I promise your virtue is safe with me."
Will barks out a laugh, and it's the best sound in the world. I want to spend more time with him to make him laugh and show him there is more to me than my family's name and wealth, that we could be good for one another. I heard Wendy talking to him earlier, and I could hear the doubt in his voice. He may not be ready to take a chance on us, but I'm willing to wait for him as long as it takes.
"Get comfortable," I tell him and grab my nightdress from beneath my pillow. “I’ll be right back.”
I quickly change and dump my clothes into the hamper. When I step back into my room, Will is lying on top of the covers. His tall frame stretched out and so inviting. His eyes are shut, but the tiny smile curling up on his lips tells me he's not asleep yet.
“I might sleep for days,” he says.
“That sounds like a good plan.”
I skip getting under the covers and instead pull the quilt from the bench at the end of my bed and pull it over the both of us. I scoot in close next to him, and I'm grateful when he doesn't pull away. Instead, he loops his arm over my waist and rests his head on my shoulder.
My fingertips find his hair, and I brush them gently over his temple. He pulls me closer and the heat of his body pressed against mine feels so good.
“I don’t know anyone who would have done what you’ve done for me,” he says.
“I’m sure if given the opportunity, most people would surprise you.”
“Maybe. But one thing is for sure. I don’t deserve you,” he whispers against my neck. “But I hope one day I will.”
WILL
The room is dim when I finally stir awake. I can’t tell if it’s morning or night. It takes a moment for my brain to register even where I am and who is draped over my chest asleep.
Marie.
Her name sends a jolt of excitement through my body. I remember falling asleep against her. The soft press of her breast against my chest as I fell asleep, giving me the most realistic dream of us together.
“Mmm,” she sighs contentedly against me, and my already alert cock stirs. “Good morning.”
"I'm pretty sure it's evening, I say," my voice rough from sleep.
I use my free hand that isn't wrapped around her to pull my phone from my pocket and check my messages. There are a few from Wendy. She's just giving me updates on Billy—thankfully, all good. There is one from Harry asking about the necklace. I delete the message and block his number. I'm done with that life, and I'm never going back. I have a real chance of a future with Marie, and I'm not going to mess it up.
“I’d ask if you’re hungry, but I don’t think I have anything in the fridge,” Marie tells me.
“But what I’m hungry for can’t be found in the kitchen,” I pause and reconsider. “Unless it’s bent over the counter for me.”
Marie laughs and playfully slaps my chest. “You sure you know what you want?”
“Hell yeah, I do. Do you?”
