“I guess that’s part of why you love the Around the World feast each year. You literally get a taste of the world.”

She taps her nose and points at me. “You got it in one.”

“You should go tonight. I mean, to the feast.”

"In case you haven't noticed, I don't think either of us is going anywhere until Tobey gets back.”

“When does it start?” I ask.

She looks down at her watch. “In about twenty minutes.”

“Okay, if Tobey gets back in time and finds us, I want you to promise me that you will go to the feast. I can’t be the reason you miss out.”

“I can’t leave you here. What if you need something?”

I scoff. “I’m sure I can manage on my own. It will feel like every other Christmas.”

I don't mean it to sound as pathetic as it does, but I regret being so honest when I see concern creasing her brow.

“Come with me.”

“Tonight? To the feast?”

"Yes, I want you to come with me. And not just because I shouldn't be leaving you alone. You have come all this way. You should try out some new experiences with our old traditions.”

“You wouldn’t mind?” I ask, feeling hope in my heart.

“It wouldn’t be any fun without you,” she assures me.

Before I can answer, the elevator jolts, and we start moving again. A moment later, the bell rings, and the doors open. An older man with a bushy white beard is standing there with a toolbox in his hand and a big smile on his face.

“There you are, Kara.” He laughs. “I was wondering where you were when I came back in.”

“Tobey, thank you!” She stands up and throws her arms around his thick waist.

“Thank you.” I push to my feet and hold out my hand to him.

He shakes it and laughs again. Then he points to Kara. “I hope this one wasn’t giving you too much trouble in there.”
