Epilogue
KARA
This is the first year I won’t be in Colorado for Christmas, but it’s okay because Sebastian surprised me by flying my parents to San Lorenzo to spend it with us.
Even after a year since the news broke about Sebastian and I getting together, it still feels surreal every day to be here. Thankfully the interest of the American that stole Prince Eduardo's heart is finally dying down. Photographers still follow us, but there are fewer and fewer each day.
"I've never had a Christmas without snow," I say as I stare out the window of the palace.
Sebastian wraps his arms around me and pulls me back against him. “I’m sorry we couldn’t make it back this year.”
"Anna said she'd send me pictures of everyone enjoying the feast."
“I’m glad to hear it.”
I turn in his arms and link my hands behind his neck. “You make me so happy.”
Sebastian's eyes twinkle as he smiles and leans down to kiss me. We love to sneak moments like this together. And every kiss still feels as magical as the first.
“Can I give you your Christmas gift early?” he asks.
“Of course.” I bounce on the balls of my feet in excitement.
“Close your eyes,” he instructs me.
Sebastian takes my hand, and I follow him out onto the palace balcony that overlooks the ocean. The sea air whips my hair around, and I laugh, trying to hold it down.
“Are you ready?” he asks.
“Yes.”
“Okay, open.”
I can’t believe what I see when I open my eyes. There is a table laid out with more food than either of us could hope to eat on our own in a week.
“I know we won’t be there for the Around the World feast this year, but I thought I'd bring it to you. But before I call for our families to enjoy this with us, I have something I need to ask you." He pulls out a box from his pocket and gets down on one knee. “I’ve known for a year that I wanted to ask you this, but I needed to know for sure that this life was something you wanted. You have consumed my soul, Kara, and I can't live the rest of my life without you. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?"
I'm so overcome with happiness that I ignore all the training I've been given since arriving at the palace and throw myself into Sebastian's arms. He chuckles and holds me close.
“Is that a yes to becoming my future wife?” he whispers in my ear.
I whisper back, “Yes, my future husband.”
