Griff's chuckle is deep. "You can't take me anywhere."

"I know."

"How do you deal?"

"It's been a tough—"

"Lifetime?" he teases.

"It has been." I take another bite of my gelato. Let the green ice cream melt on my tongue. It's perfection. It really is.

Or maybe that's because I'm sitting in Griff's lap.

Because he's looking at me like he loves me.

Right now, I don't want to question it.

"Why do you put up with it?" He brings a scoop of ice cream to his lips. Sucks it from his spoon.

"Why do I put up with your inability to keep your mouth shut?" I ask.

His nod is earnest. "This might be news, but a lot of people find me annoying."

"I find you annoying."

"You always have," he says.

"But in a way I like."

He arches a brow.

"I don't know, Griff. You've been a lot of things, but you've always been there."

He nods. "You too."

"I try." I take another lick of ice cream. Mmm. It's distracting how good this is. "I'm not sure I can have an emotional conversation with something this good in my mouth.

"Go on."

My cheeks flush. "See. That. Everything is always sex with you."

"With me?"

I nod.

"I'm the one that dragged you into a clothing store?"

"You enticed me."

"Did I?"

"Yeah." My fingers skim his temple. "You were too beautiful."

"Damn. Can't deny that." He smiles.

"Yeah. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time."

His voice drops to something low and demanding. "Tell me more about this crime."
